ANTHOLOGY TAKING SUBMISSIONS!

Stalkers
A Collection of Thriller Stories
This anthology will have a main theme of Stalkers. That is about where my direction stops. It does not have to be paranormal, though it can be. The story can be a psychological thriller, horror, paranormal, suspense, action…whatever you want it to be. You can have a demon stalking someone in their dreams or a serial killer stalking prey, just to give you a couple examples. Whatever your twisted minds can come up with. I want stories that have you looking in the backseat of your car before you get in—stories that make the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you think someone looked at you just a little too long. Let your imaginations flow free and DELVE into the DARKER side of your mind…You know you want to.
This is an adult anthology but please…NO SEXUALLY DISTURBING scenes.
There will be more guidelines for submissions this time around. This is the 3rd anthology and we are learning as we go. Legacy of Blood (Skye Morrison Vampire series 4)
Posted by cynthiashepp
REVIEW BY CASSIE HOFFMAN
Skye Morrison has learned that vampires and werewolves are real. Since finding all that out, she has fallen in love with one, and secretly has a crush on another one. Being involved with vampires has changed her world, with being kidnapped and the worst that could happen…dying.
After waking up in a casket, Skye is faced with her fear. She is now a vampire and it wasn’t by her own choosing. It was either turn her or let her die, and Archer did what he thought was best and that was to make Skye one of them. Skye is something different from all other Day Walkers and Dark Ones. Since Amun breathed a part of his soul into her when he kidnapped her, this has made her something that no one has ever seen before.
What is she exactly? This is what they will have to find out. She can’t drink blood from a bag, it will make her sick. She can only drink blood from a donor, and when that happens her venom gives the blood donor a BIG SURPRISE. If she drinks from another vampire, she is able to take their power and have it for a few weeks. Skye also hold the eye color of The Dark One. When she gets angry….they turn pitch black. Otherwise, her eye color is white with black pupils. That isn’t normal. She isn’t like your regular newborn; she is able to control herself as well.
With her having been infected by Amun previous to her turning into a Day Walker, Skye will have to prove she is good and if they determined she is a Dark One, like Amun, they will give her the final death. With the Army of An Dilis, Skye will have to perform a few tests given by Ruara and Brothers of the Army of The Faithful. After going through all these test it is up to them to decide if they will let her live. And surprisingly they do, and offer her to placement in a very surprising place.
With having passed the tests and having her life still intact, it is now time to think about how to get to Amun. He wants Skye to meet him in a week to become his bride, and if not he will start killing all her loved ones. Will they be able to get to Amun and kill him, or will having Amun breathing a part of his soul in Skye affect her if they try to kill him? If so, how will they go about making Amun no more?
Archer and Skye’s start trying to have a relationship finally. He is her maker, which makes their bond that much more. Will they finally become a couple? Oh, you will just have to wait and see
In this book, Jameson isn’t in it till the end. All the while he doesn’t know about Skye being a vampire, or what is going on with her. The last time he saw her, she wanted nothing to do with him, but finally they need Jameson for his healing. He soon finds out what has been going on while he was gone, on top of finding out Archer and Skye are in love with each other. Jameson is heartbroken. Can he ever forgive Skye and Archer?
Skye Morrison is even better as a kick ass vampire with her own Divine Power! What is that? It is something none of the other vampires have ever seen before, and it is super cool. What do you think her Divine Power is? To top it off Skye is a phenomenon, a rock star in their race, and with her Sacred vow ceremony coming up, everyone is excited to meet the infamous Skye Morrison.
Legacy of Blood was great from the begging to the end. We get to finally see Skye as a vampire and see her struggles of accepting it and showing everyone she isn’t evil like Amun. And for those who love Archer we get some Archer and Skye loving and I think I’m finally TEAM ARCHER! YES I SAID IT! Lol. LoB was written very well and kept you turning the pages or, in my case, sliding my finger. I love vampire Skye. I can’t wait for the next book to see how she grows into her new immortal life. LoB was action packed and kept you guessing, which I loved. The only person who was missing until the end of the book was Jameson, I was sad to not have him in the book, but all the other characters are there, and we get to meet new ones. J.L. McCoy hit it out of the park again with Legacy of Blood! I give this book 5 HUGE STARS.
“I want to be the person everyone thinks I am, but the reality is so far from it. I’m irrevocably flawed and I have issues that you know nothing about.”-Skye
“Imagining the rest of my life without you in it wasn’t very appealing either. I love you, Skye Morrison; I love you from the deepest part of my being. I never want to go through what I’ve been through in the last five days ever again. It was soul crushing not being able to look into your eyes or hear your voice.”-Archer
“You held it all, Skye….everything I had. I love you, even after all the bullshit you put me through, but I’m letting you go. I have to make my heart move on before loving you fucking kills me.”- Jameson
J.L. McCoy
J. L. McCoy resides in the beautifully weird city of Austin, Texas with her opinionated Pekiweenie Isabel and handsome husband Kenny. She has always been a passionate reader and enjoys watching movies, traveling, listening to heavy metal/classic rock/80s music, getting mani/pedis with her girls, and singing karaoke. She loves body art and is hopelessly addicted to Sonic’s ice and Route 44 un-sweet raspberry iced tea.

Review of ‘TEXAS JACK’ (FREE April 4-6 on Amazon!)
Posted by cynthiashepp
Bart Hopkin’s ‘Texas Jack’ was a tale of family, heartbreak, betrayal, and forgiveness. I will admit that it hit really close to home as Jack’s father reminded me of how mine used to be. The story switched back in forth from past to present and told the tale of Jack’s life from childhood to adulthood. I always love books that do that. It gives you more of a sense of who the character is.
Jack is a man with a family, a wife that he loves and a son that he adores. His family life is happy, regardless of the blasé attitude that everyone gives to his father, Billy, about his drinking and the excuses everyone makes for him. Jack was on the road to being an alcoholic just like his father while he was in college. He drank all the time…until he met a girl at a concert and she changed his life.
Fast forward to the future and a trip to visit his parents, and you can feel the build-up to something with every page you read. You know it’s coming, you know it’s going to be bad, but you don’t know the outcome. I laughed, I cried, I bit my fingernails, and I even found myself praying for the characters in the book (lol, God must think I’m nuts), but you just can’t help it. You get so invested in the outcome of the book that their family has become your family.
Full of characters that you wish you only had in your life, friends and family alike, this book shows that family, friendship, and love is alive…and that forgiveness may be hard, but it’s possible and worth it in the long run. I actually felt like I didn’t know if I could forgive what happened, but after hitting the last page, I knew he had done the right thing, and it changed their family forever. This book is an instant classic, a must-read, and one of those books that stay with you long after you are done. I give Texas Jack 5 STARS and would give it more if I could. A moving, heartwarming story that everyone should read!

Guest Post and Giveaway from Irving Podolsky
Posted by cynthiashepp
Today we have Irving Podolsky, author of the Irv’s Odyssey Trilogy. Book One: Lost in the Looking Glass: Book Two: To the Light and Beyond: Book Three: Seeking the Way Home. Two lucky winners will walk away with the whole E-Book Trilogy! I, for one, can’t wait to delve into Irv’s world. Even though these books are not my usual type of read, the covers drew me in and the author himself snagged me the rest of the way.
Review Snippets:
“A perfect introduction to this coming-of-age trilogy of one young Jewish man in the midst of the era of sex, drugs and rock and roll.”
“My plan was to take Lost in a Looking Glass with me so I could read it on our cruise. But I finished it before we even left. What a page turner “
Gregor Wossilus – film critic, content producer and story analyst for the Bavarian Broadcasting Network
“The story had me laughing and groaning, with a distinct voice and a somewhat naïve approach to life and sex, Irv’s immersion into the world of porn films was penned in a conversational first person style, that often felt very much like a series of screen shots of a day in the life.”
AUTHOR BIO:
Irving H. Podolsky resides in the mind of this writer, and within the trilogy, Irv’s Odyssey. As your host, I wish to remain in your hearts as that forever-young YOU seeking love, joy, wisdom and adventure.

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS
Dear Readers,
Cynthia gave me absolutely no restrictions regarding what I should write about.
Well…there was one. She reminded me of that Golden Rule of Blogging. Write unto Others as you would have them write unto you, but not over 650 words.
A very important rule, ‘cause on the internet most of us don’t read more than 300 words about anything.
I break that rule. A lot. I have this crazy idea that you’ll stay with me for five minutes, reading my stuff to the end.
But I may be delusional. I could be boring and no one is telling me….out of KINDNESS.
There’s a lot of kindness out there and we’re all awarding it. Here’s an example.
*****
I’m visiting my folks now, and last night they invited me to the Acropolis Restaurant and there we met Dave and Estelle, my parent’s best buddies and the other half of our small gathering. I’ve known Dave and Estelle for eight years. Estelle is engaging. David is not.
Three of us chose the garlic “House” dressing and that kicked Dave into reciting a yarn about a very old man who ate those stinky cloves everyday. The set up: Why did the garlic let grandpa live to be one hundred? The punch line: Because every time the Angel of Death came to visit, the old man would say, (Dave continued with a breathy exhale) “Whoooo are you?” You guessed it. The old codger’s garlicky breath chased the angel away.
Joke delivered, Dave laughed, our cue to join him.
I darted a quick glance at Estelle, who I’m sure had heard this yawn a thousand times. She grinned with a hint of a giggle. Mom and Dad politely chimed in next. I followed with a feigned smile and an approving nod.
Dave was boring and we were his enablers. No one wanted that job, but who was gonna tell the man his humor sucked, even for the second grade? Okay, his wife. But that wasn’t happening. She was kind.
From that point on my opinion of Dave locked in. The guy was not reading the room, and clueless about the difference between funny and stupid, which I assumed would apply to anything else he might say.
So when he related another story about early booster rockets, I didn’t believe him when he emphatically stated that the Jupiter C never put a man into space. I thought it did and he curtly corrected me.
When I got home I looked it up. Guess what? David was right. The Jupiter C tested various nose cones, (Who knew?) and the Redstone M lifted the Mercury astronauts into orbit.
And I got to thinking. Telling a bad joke can bust your credibility, and yet how many friends advise us to can the gags? They don’t. They pretend we’re funny. They’re being kind.
This kindness sets up bad novels too. When you write your best and give it out for review, how many people tell you it’s crap? (Agents not included.) Okay, maybe it’s not crap, but maybe your style is rough, or you’re overly wordy, or your tension isn’t working. Do your readers tell you you’re not the writer you think you are? And that your breath stinks, you slump and you’re conceited?
They don’t? Humm. Could it be…dare I say it…that you really, deep down inside DON’T WANT TO KNOW?
Because if you don’t want the truth, that leaves the one thing you DO want – validation. And consequently friends and strangers, out of kindness, will give you just that – PRAISE (the kiss of death to any writer if it’s not justified).
“Oh, that’s not me,” you say, “I can handle criticism.”
Me too. So when I gave out my first drafts of Irv’s Odyssey, I insisted on brutal honesty. Sure, that first editing pass was deadly unpleasant. But it made me a better writer (after Mr. Ego settled down). I then developed my style and found a “voice” – Irv’s voice; and then another – this voice. I strive to keep it frank, open and honest.
Still, I can’t stop being kind to lame jokesters.

TASTING NEVER BLOG TOUR (REVIEW/GIVEAWAY)
Posted by cynthiashepp
Never Ross is the type of girl who is lost, alone and sad, she tries to fill the empty void within herself by having numerous sexual partners, guys she can’t remember their faces or even their names. It could be a guy she just met at a party, letting him take her up against the wall while she is looking in on the guy she should be trying to go for: the type of guy you marry and have kids with. But for some reason Never can’t help herself; she goes for the bad boys with tattoos, other lost souls like herself. Seeing her father murdered right in front of her when she was younger, or the horrible act her mother did to her, may have been the reason Never is trying to fill a void by having unprotected sex with strangers she just met.
Never is seriously a lost soul, an empty vessel who sees no point in life. She cries herself to sleep at night and has no friends. She’s put herself through hell, for what? Trying to find the cure that will save her? Maybe that cure is in the form of one of those bad boys she goes for and maybe she is his cure?
While at a party Never connects with one of the bad boys she always drops her panties for, but he’s a total jerk and of course she’s a bitch. Both mad at one another because his pickup line wasn’t working and because she wouldn’t dance with him, they part ways, hoping never to see the other again.
At a convenient store, getting the three things that makes everything better for Never, sugar, beer and smokes, that beautiful tortured soul Ty shows up with Never’s gay roommate and a few others. A situation arises that makes Never look at things in a new light.
Finding out Ty was a whore who got paid to have sex with both men and woman was a revelation. Never is the exact same, but unlike Ty, Never just does it to do it, with this they have something in common. Can they save each other? Did they connect that night because they saw their self in each other’s eyes? Ty becomes Never’s only friend. Yeah a guy being a friend with Never, can that even be possible with both their backgrounds?
Never wasn’t always like this, the girl who screws unknown men, the girl who hides away from everyone, who doesn’t show her true self. Hell, who is the real Never? She has no clue! She used to be happy, loved dancing, and had a long term boyfriend who she thought she loved, but one night changed that all and made this new Never, who she can’t even stand.
Never finally lets someone in a bit and becoming closer, Ty and Never take steps to help each other. Trying to do positive things, they lean on each other for support. Maybe they do need each other; they could be each other’s saving grace.
Never doesn’t know why she does the stuff she does, why she sleeps around and feels so empty and alone, but soon the realization hits her. Maybe Never Ross just wants to be loved, that’s it. LOVED! Could that cure her of her sexual addition, and the bad boys she can’t help but attract?
Ty McCabe is who was sent to save Never from her own self and vise-versa. How do you know if they care about each other? They don’t sleep with each other, and they are able to let their secrets out and maybe heal a bit in the process. They can save each other ONLY if they can let each other in.
And maybe, just maybe, they are falling in love in the process of healing each other’s tortured souls. Can two reformed sex addicts fall in love and be with only each other? Ty is the most flawed, most tortured, most beautiful human being she’s ever met and that scares her. I think we have to wait for the second book for that one……
Tasting Never is a book that touches on a real life subject. You may know someone like Never or Ty. This book seriously gets you right from the start, it starts with a big bang and will suck you right on in and won’t let you go until it’s over, and if you’re like me you will be begging for the next book. There was so many times while reading that I wanted to jump into this book and save Never, hold her tell her it will be all okay and that she isn’t a lost cause. Also throw in there a sexy Ty who is just like Never and you have a hot and steamy book. Two lost souls trying to save each other and you have a book you can’t put down! CM is brilliant, and I give her HIGH praises for Tasting Never. I haven’t read a book like this one and I’m so glad I got to review it and add another great author to my growing list of favorites! Tasting Never flows just right, keeps you guessing and hoping for the right outcome. I give this book 5 stars!!!!
Quotes from the Book:
“Get out and leave me alone. My life is complicated enough without you around. You’re too broken for me to fix.”- Never
“There’s this vicious blending of bodies and strong wills and stubborn character and for a split second, there’s no you and no me, just us. It fades away as quickly as it came and soon we’re back to just being human.”- Never
“The best part about you is your soul. It’s a piece of tortured beauty.”-Never
“You misunderstood what I was trying to say. I said I’ve never loved anyone before, meaning before this moment, because Never, I love someone now.”- Ty

In the Raven, she is the law: judge, jury and executioner.
‘Black Lace’ is a breathtaking story about ‘free’ choice, love and a young woman’s struggle to find her place in a fierce world. This is an exciting and extraordinary story of love and betrayal, one that will leave you captivated and desperately seeking more.

What People are saying about it
“J.V.K really developed a story line that was strong and very gripping; it catches your attention and has instances that you can relate to in real life, she builds a reality that is not only believable but also encouraging, as her story Black Lace is really all about free choice.–Paranormal Reads
“Vivian is not your average female character. She is no damsel in distress for sure, but she does suffer from some major mood swings and some temper issues. She isn’t one that needs rescuing, except from maybe herself. This book has vampires, werewolves and a few other creatures, but doesn’t follow the same style as most books in this genre. If you are looking for something different that has action and some heated moments, this is the read for you. ”- Mystical World of Book
Reviews
What a deliciously dark and twisted love story! Brilliantly complex characters pull you in and keep you captivated. Just when you think it can’t get any better, the author takes you back to scenes and replays the treasures that you missed! The beginning of an amazing series…a must-read indeed!” – Kristy Bueno
“Black Lace is a truly original read. I have yet to read another ‘vampire’ book quite like it. The originality lies directly in the uniqueness of the plot and storyline. It weaves and twists so quickly, and generally has a very fast pace, so much so that I was out of breath keeping up.” – Bex ‘n’ Books

Review/Giveaway of ‘Overnight Sensation’

Overnight Sensation by Hal Eisenberg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I will start by saying that I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy read. Jonah is a fifteen-year-old boy that finds out that his dad used to be a rock star. His dad decides to get his band back together just for some fun jam sessions. They record a song that Jonah shares with his friends. Somehow the song gets sent to the radio station and played on air…the catch? The radio station thinks that Jonah and his friends are the ones that are in the band.
The boys decide to start their own band and, along with Jonah’s dad, set out to make the world believe that it was the boy’s song. Throw in a crooked radio station manager, someone from Jonah’s dad’s past, and a gaggle of girls…and you have an OVERNIGHT SENSATION on your hands.
This was a very cute book. It was geared probably towards the younger YA audience (though there was light cussing) but it was still enjoyable to me. I liked the simplicity of it. It made every page turn quickly and easily. With some light romance, a great group of friends, and a bully turned band mate…this is a fun read that I suggest you pick up and give a try.
Quotes from the book:
“All I’m saying is that when a girl finds out you’re in a band, they start acting totally different around you.”
“Sheesh, it sounds like someone had an extra bowl of bitchy flakes this morning.”
“No sweat, Joman. If that jerk ever bothers you again, just tell me and I’ll crush him like a walnut.”

protagonists make for enjoyable reading. Topics teens deal with every day -
unwanted pregnancy, cutting, alcoholism, self-esteem issues, and peer pressure are all told in a way that seems fresh; a credit to the author’s talent for fleshing out his interesting characters.”
“For a first time Writer A.L Burgos knows how to write! I was captivated by the first page after that he had me at hook-line-and-sinker. This book has a little something for everyone. Talking about the angst is getting me antsy even writing this, that’s how good the writing is.”

Sliding Beneath the Surface Blog Tour: Interview with Doug Dillon

Interview of Doug Dillon: author of Sliding Beneath the Surface
Book I in The St. Augustine Trilogy
1. What do you like about writing in the paranormal genre?
First of all, it is just so much fun. I get to play with the spooky things that have haunted humankind for millennia and the possibilities are endless. Second of all I get to use my own paranormal experiences as a basis for everything I write in that arena. It just flows so naturally because I’ve been there. And last of all, I get to actually educate some folks about the paranormal in the process. Sure, I present all that stuff as scary, but in the end, I show it as a very natural and positive part of who we are as human beings.
2. How long did it take to write your book?
To be perfectly honest, I started playing with the Sliding book during a trip to St. Augustine back in 2004. But actual writing/editing time would be about a year and a half.
3. Do you create an outline first?
Yup, I’m an outliner from hell. Well, not in the usual outline format but I do pre-construct each chapter with its own story arcs and write a synopsis. I also have a checklist of items I need to include with regard to things such as location, physical environment and whatever Jeff, the main character, is physically sensing.
In fact, I have an actual form I used to outline Book II of the trilogy so I wouldn’t forget anything. BUT–once I get into the writing, my characters and I often veer in unexpected directions and new chapters sometimes get written in the process.
4. Do you ever get writer’s block and if so how do you overcome it?
Only in the sense that I struggle with how to express something complex in the fewest words possible. Even then, I’m a meditator so I know how to gently back away from the problem, stay centered and look at it in a new light.
5. If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
If I had the professional credentials, I would love to be an investigator for the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies. For decades, they have been investigating cases of reincarnation in children worldwide.
6. List 3 books you just recently read and would recommend?
Nonfiction – Life Before Life: Children’s Memories of Previous Lives by Dr. Jim Tucker
Mystery – The Sanibel Sunset Detective by Canadian journalist Ron Base
YA – Divergent by Veronica Roth

Review/Giveaway of C.J. Graves’s ‘AntiChrist 16: The Becoming’
Posted by cynthiashepp
REVIEW BY CASSIE HOFFMAN
What if someone told you that you were to be the Antichrist. Would you believe them? This is what 16 year old Nathan Tarra is faced with. How would you deal with this news?
Nathan Terras is an adopted high school student. Who can usually talk himself out of the trouble he gets into… SOMETIMES. Why? Because he can see auras and has ever since he can remember. This is his secret; he has told only one other person, his best friend Shayla. After getting into a fight with one ofthe schools bully’s/popular kid, he gets sent to the principal’s office. This will not be a normal trip to the principle; this will change everything he has ever known.
With his principal having a heart attack right in front of him, Nathan tries to save him and does, only to be thanked by being strangled by him. Mr. Jerico, a teacher, injects the principal and kills him. This isn’t normal, first his principle has a heart attack, then he tries to kill Nathan, and now Mr. Jerico kills him. What is going on? Soon Nathan will find out.
Mr.Jerico lays something big on Nathan. He is the AntiChrist! How can a normal sixteen-year-old boy, who can’t stand hurting a bug or seeing blood, be the person responsible for the end of days?
Revealing to his two best friends Shayla and Cheeseman that he is the AntiChrist and with the help of Mr. Jerico he tries to make him understand what this will all mean to Nathan. Yes, he may be the Antichrist, but others refer to him as the Uniter. He will unite mankind after the Great Change, which will disassemble the world’s religions.
But, Nathan shouldn’t have become the Antichrist when he did; he somehow changed the plan when he saved his principle. Learning that not only is he the Uniter, but Shayla, Cheeseman and Mr. Jerico are his Keepers; ones to keep him safe from harm and to protect him at all cost.
But there are others called Takers and he will come to find out those around him are “Takers” and out to end him before the Great Change happens. If that happens they could do what they want with the end of times to their own purpose.
So now, not only does Nathan have to worry that his is the Antichrist, but there are others out there that want him dead. How could he wake up on a normal morning and end the day learning all this new information; stuff he never even believed in!
With his high school Friends becoming Takers and having to fight for his life, soon Nathan finds out he has a certain power. He can “freeze” them, but it doesn’t last for long. Can he master his power? If so, that could help him a lot. Join Nathan on a journey like no other and find out all the secrets that his friends, family, and the world have been hiding from him.
Antichrist 16 was a great surprise to read, seeing the title I didn’t give it a lot of thought and didn’t think I would enjoy it because it isn’t the kind of book I usually read, but once you start it you will not be able to put it down. You will want to find out what is going on. There are so many twist and turns and shockers that C.J. Graves wrote, that it’s GREAT! The read keeps you wanting for more. The characters are well developed and lovable and some of the bad one’s you will dislike like I did. I loved how Nathan takes everything in stride and keeps going, even though he thinks he may be dreaming some of the time (BUT HE ISN’T). I also liked that it wasn’t a book filled with religious talk, yes there is some talk because you had to have that to know what exactly what is going on and learn about the Antichrist. I can’t wait for the next book to see where it takes Nathan and what becomes of his future. I give this book 4 STARS!
Quotes from the Book:
“Well , I’d be freaked out, too. I mean, you witness our principal have a heart attack, give him some sort of energy mouth-to-mouth, and he goes wiggy and tries to choke you.”- Shayla
“Lies and half-truths told by power hungry men. There’s only one savior.”- Jerico
“That’s the difference between you and me. I used it to keep The Uniter safe- The Uniter being Nathan. You’re using it to put his life in danger, and in putting his life in danger, you put this whole planet in danger-danger of having no leader or having a substandard one.”- Jerico
“And behold a pale horse. His name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.” Nathan
