If someone told you they were a vampire would you believe them, could you work for them, or fall in love with them? These are the questions Skye Morrison will face in J.L. McCoy’s Blood of the Son.
Skye Everleigh Morrison is a 23-year-old free spirited young woman, who loves to paint, read, dance and do Krav Maga and is REALLY good at it. She has a great house, kick-ass friends, the best dog ever, a miniature Bulldog Styvi Nix, who she loves more than anything. To top it off she has the most wonderful best friend, Nikkie St.James. Plus she lives in the most beautiful and free spirited city of Austin, Texas. But, some things are fixing to change for Skye, maybe for the worse or for the best. You will just have to see.
Skye has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend, Jesse Prescott, who has now turned into a stalker. Skye is a server at Drop Kick Dan’s and has been working there for the last four years. She has just graduated college with a degree in Ancient History and Classical Civilization. She is now finding herself in debt up to her eye balls from student loans; she’s $ 70,000 in debt. Though she loves working at Drop Kick Dan’s and her boss Dan is awesome, she is going to have to find something else that will pay more.
While at a coffee shop, Afterburner’s, her ex shows up and puts on a show, thankfully a strange man helps Skye with her stalker. This gorgeous knight in shining Prada’s helps her and this chance meeting will forever change Skye’s life. Archer Rhys is a stunning, thirty-something breathtaking man. They talk for a minute and he gives Skye a red card for his grand opening of his club so she can come join him. When he learns Skye is looking for a job he offers her an interview for the next day. Could she get any luckier?!
Skye nails the interview and is offered the position of executive assistant to help with the daily club operations at The Mausoleum, the next big thing to hit Austin. Not only will Skye be an executive assistant, but she will be making $85,000 a year plus a raise in six months. This is what she has needed; she can pay off her student loans in no time. The Mausoleum is going to be a Goth/industrial night club.
Still working at Drop Kick Dan’s for the next week, Skye ends up passing out at work. When she comes to she sees Jameson Doyle the lead singer of The Mankey Langer, her crush. Just her luck! Jameson helps her and when he touches Skye she feels tingling, his touch sets her on fire, electriyifing her. She has NEVER experienced anything like that in her life; it set’s her hormones on fire. Jameson offers to drive her home since her ankle and knee isn’t in very great shape. They find their selves making out in the employee parking lot. Making out with her crush, SCORE!
Skye soon finds out that Jameson and Archer are brothers. These two guys she is crushing on are related. She has feelings for both brothers, each offers something different, and each has a secret. Skye learns that Archer and Jameson are vampires, vampires! Who would have thought they were actually real? Well now she knows, they aren’t just myths.
Having to get the club ready for the opening and feeling a pull towards each of the brothers, Skye tries to not pay attention to her feelings. How can she come between a maker and his child? It will just make everything complicated. She really likes Archer, but of course she doesn’t know if it’s his pheromones or him. Can she ever really know, and does he just want her for her blood running through her veins?
With the opening of The Mausoleum, and it being a complete success and a big hit with the humans and vampire customers, everything is looking up, until one of Archer and Jameson’s own are found brutally murdered when the club is closed at the end of the night. Greyson Mead is found completely gutted, entrails scattered about, head ripped off his body, eye’s removed and there is a messaged carved in his torso “THE BLOOD OF THE SON SHALL PAY FOR THE SINS OF THE FATHER.”
Could it have been a Dark One that has done that, or another vampire? Is Archer, Jameson and the rest of their vampire friends safe, or will more turn up dead and butchered like Greyson?
With now trying to figure out if she can let Archer in and with the worry of who killed their friend, and the worry if more will get hurt, Skye has a lot to figure out and a lot to take in. She is now living in a new and totally different life then she was a few weeks ago. Will she miss that life, because no matter what she will never go back, or forget what she has found out?
I could not put this book down; I devoured it and wanted more. J.L. McCoy is freaking fabulous and now has a forever follower. Skye is a character that you just fall in love with and can relate to and you will probably wish you had her closet for yourself, lol. She is someone I would love to be, not to mention she has two gorgeous vampire brothers wanting to be with her. All the characters are well written and you root for all of them. I laughed so hard throughout this book with some of the quotes. It was well written, flowed just right, and kept you interested and at the end you will find yourself saying “Oh man!” J.L McCoy leaves us with a cliffhanger. There are so many different characters that bring different things into this book, including a gay vampire, SCORE! Is it sad that I wish I had a Skye Morrison’s life? Hey, I would be happy just to have it for a day. I give this book 5 Gothic stars!!!
QUOTES FROM THE BOOK:
“I’m not suggesting you run off and marry him, Skye! I’m merely suggesting a few games of ‘Slap and Tickle.”- Nikki
“Bite me and I’ll shove a clove of garlic up your ass, fang boy.”- Skye
“It will be okay, Skye. Jameson and I will not allow anything to happen to you. You are part of our family now and we take care of our family.”- Archer
“Stupid damn vampire and his stupid damn vampire pheromones.”- Skye

I am going to start off saying that this is not the usual type of book I read but I am glad I did.
I Spider is set in Australia. It starts off with a man you will later find out is Tony. He is describing waking up in a mental institution, feeling clearer than he has in years, and wearing a straightjacket…He thinks he has committed murder.
Tony was an odd one, functional for most of his life but aware that something wasn’t quite right with himself. He lived with his mother most of the time in a shed in the backyard but he did finally get his own house. He was a graphic designer that was out of work more than he was in, with brief, creative stints that seemed to be leading to bigger and brighter things, but always ended. He was also deathly afraid of spiders…or so he said.
Tony’s path through his mental illness intensified the older he got and the longer he went without treatment. He developed a hatred of a man named Paul and decided to plan and commit the perfect murder. Then the spider hoarding and madness really started to get bad. Tony’s brilliant plan was to use one of the most poisonous spiders there are, the Funnel Web spider, and milk it of it’s venom. This would be horribly dangerous and insane, but he manages. He then has to find and make the perfect murder weapon…a dart with two tips to mimic the bite of a funnel web. Tony loses most of his grasp on reality, becoming even more of a loner and the type of person that children make fun of, which they do on a regular basis. Tony’s descent into madness is spiraling out of control and the unthinkable happens…his plan really works. What happens afterwards? Will he spend his life locked up? Or will he in fact get a new life?
I Spider made me terribly afraid of spiders, made me rethink my urge to visit Australia, and left me slack jawed at the brilliance of the author. This book was fantastic. A true psycological thriller that sometimes made you laugh, sometimes horrified you, but always had you on the edge of your seat. The book reads like someone is sitting beside you telling you a story. You feel like you are in a conversation with Tony. His madness is so apparent in the telling of the story. It seriously made me FEEL his madness. The book jumped around subjects like you know someone who does not have all their marbles would talk, but it never got confusing. There was a realistic feel that was creepy as hell, especially with the pictures in the book, but I was assured it was fiction lol. Regardless of some of the things that Tony does, you still find yourself rooting for him, hoping he completes his task, and hoping that he can eventually get better. I also loved the way he talked. I went around my house saying ‘wanker’ in my head and laughing like an idiot for two days lol. I recommend giving I Spider a chance, even if it is not your usual type of book. I give it 5 stars.

A chance encounter, two strangers going through losing the loves of their lives, find each other when they least expect it. Can a romantic vacation fling turn into more?
Tara is a journalist who just found out her fiancé was cheating on her. She threw her ring, called off the wedding, and cashed their honeymoon vacation in. She is heading to the most romantic place, ST. Thomas, alone, sad, hurting, and still in shock over losing the only thing she has known for the last few years.
Mick, a Marine, just got a “Dear John” letter from his fiancé; she can’t handle him being gone and being alone. His Major makes him take a two week leave to clear his mind, because he is no good for his team with his mind in another place and not on the battlefield. With keys to the Major’s vacation home in ST. Thomas, Mick is looking forward to a two week leave to clear his mind and hopefully a chance to find a pretty girl to take his mind off what he just lost.
On the plane to ST. Thomas Tara and Mick meet, they shouldn’t have. Tara had a ticket in first class, but gave it to a soldier in a full body cast. After an incident puts Tara and Mick in seats next to each other, they make small talk. When they both learn they are going to ST. Thomas for the same reason, each make a bet that their break-up was worse than the others. With Mick winning by getting a “Dear John” letter, he makes plans to take Tara to a restaurant, to a walk on the beach, and on a boat ride.
Going to dinner and walking they both feel a pull towards each other. Maybe Tara will get a romantic encounter after all and Mick will be able to forget about his ex with Tara. Not knowing anyone else but each other, the two decide to hang out together while on vacation, so they can help each other forget about their ex’s.
Tara is given a boat for a day by the solider she gave her first class seat to. Tara and Mick decide to go and have lunch on an out of the way island. One mistake by Tara gets them stranded on the island. Now they are lost and no one knows where they are. While they are stranded Mick finds out a secret Tara has been keeping from him. Being lost on an island alone Mick and Tara find that they are falling for each other, maybe way too fast.
Getting off the island and being rescued brings them back to the real world, with Mick professing his love to Tara, and Tara doing the same. But, is there a chance that Tara will send him a “Dear John” letter just like his ex? Will Mick forget about her, realize he doesn’t really love her, or worse, die?
Can their vacation romance blossom into more? Can they live without each other? These are the questions they both face in ‘Love Lost and Found’.
‘Love Lost and Found’ is a really fast developing story, from the beginning to the end. This story has a lot of twist and turns as well as different situations that the characters find themselves in. It takes you out of your room where you’re readingand into the romantic ST. Thomas setting. You will find yourself loving Mick and Tara and rooting for them. I give it 4 stars!
Quotes from the book:
“So what? I might shake a dog’s paw, doesn’t mean I want him drooling all over me.”-Tara
“I love you, Tara. I don’t know how it happened so fast, but I have no question in my mind. I love you.”- Mick
“I know he’s been burned…still…he asked Lisa to marry him, but not me. If he loves me, why hasn’t he proposed to me? Maybe because I’d be a burden now. I’m not the same as the girl he fell for. I’m broke. He deserves better.”- Tara

I read both the 1st book (Devastation) and the second book (Isolation) by Shandy L. Kurth and I absolutely fell in love with both of them. I am in a really big apocalyptic/dystopian kick right now so these books were right up my alley. If you have not read the first book, Devastation, please be aware that there will be spoilers in this review of the second book.
Isolation picks up where Devastation left off, all of the kids spread out in the Safe Zone, after a long, terrifying journey to get there where they suffered through starvation, dehydration, and debilitating fear. Even after reaching their destination Fallon, Desiree, Sandi, Brody and Guy are left to realize that there is nothing SAFE about the Safe Zone. America is still in the war with Canada, life is hard and nothing like before the war, and the kids have been forced to grow up way to fast. Living in group homes and working wherever the government tells them to work, school and being a normal kid is a thing of the past. Fallon and Desiree are finally back together again after being branded as traitors and then pardoned, but they only have a few days together before Fallon is sent off to war, as every able-bodied person, male or female, over the age of 17 is. Brody and Sandi have started a new relationship even though they know that they will both be sent off to war soon and who knows when they will see each other again. Guy, the Canadian that saved their lives, is fixing to be thrown into a situation that he might never get out of, spying on his own country to help the Americans. Will the kids make it through alive? Will their relationships last? What else can the world throw at them that it hasn’t already? Apparently, it can throw so much more at them as their journey continues…in the Safe Zone…and in the war.
Isolation was a very enjoyable, action packed read. I found myself holding my breath on multiple occasions and also crying my eyes out. These kids have went through so much, in the first book and the second. The setting just seems like it could be realistic, like it could happen tomorrow. You instantly connect with the characters and you bond with them in ways that have you fully invested in their futures. In Isolation, new characters are introduced and right off the bat they are just part of your heart as well. 12 yr old Danny will break your heart and make you root for him till the end and Demsey is just a straight up hero in my book. I highly recommend that you pick up the Built on Fear series. I am eagerly awaiting the third installation. I actually tried to turn the page on my kindle for like 2 minutes on the last page because I just could not believe that it ended that way! I give Isolation 5 stars!
Quotes from the Book:
“Your faith, your perseverance, the fact that we’re even here! I mean…there has to be something, right?
“We’ll see each other again. In this life or the next.”
“But, life is now and none of us know if we are going to be here tomorrow, so I’m just living it.”
“I hate you because I want to ask you what to do. You’re the only one I trust but…I don’t know if I should be bothered by you, scared of you, or standing behind you.”

Today I am hosting a guest post from Addison Towne, author of Suburban Task Force. I hope you enjoy a glimpse into the life of Addison and her book.
Today I became ‘that’ mom.
The one who drove her kid through Starbucks for chocolate milk and a croissant only to rush him to eat it in the parking lot at school because we were a half hour late.
Oh, and did I mention he’s three?
While I understand the value of time and the need to teach our children to respect it- I find myself often fighting against it. I can honestly and without shame say that there are days I simply don’t take my son to school because I don’t want to deal with the time parameters. He has the rest of his life to worry about time; being on time, having enough time, what time…you get the point. Whether it’s the excuse of his being late for school, or that I would have to show up as the frazzled still in her PJ’s mom or just in general stopping him from playing and having fun, I find myself saying enough is enough and therefore let him stay with me at home.
Kids need routine, I know. But we have to teach them the fun of freedom sometimes as well right? Without this letting go, this freedom, I never would have written Suburban Task Force. I broke free of the corporate time structure and now force myself to work within my own ‘time’ to accomplish my goals.
Now, let’s be perfectly clear. I realize I am incredibly fortunate to have this ‘stay at home option’ as my husband maintains his respect for ‘time’ and as a lawyer charges hourly for it, allowing me to be frivolous with mine. Working from home means I can shift my work hours if need be, to overnight. Yes, I suffer, but admittedly I like working in a dark and silent house. There was a time when I made the daily commute and corporate rounds while my husband figured out his path, and so I try not to feel guilty about it… but sometimes I do.
This post is really a thank you to time and to my husband for letting me find my way into writing. There were characters like Suzie, Jade and Chloe waiting to get out of my head and explore this world on the page. Without the time, they would never exist and I would always feel an empty place where Suburban Task Force should have been.
Lest I not forget the drive-thru. Without the drive-thru they would definitely not exist. Sorry husband.
It takes a home invasion scare and a co-workers brutal mugging to wake Jade from her suburban slumber. The adventure begins when she and her two best friends forgo an uplifting spa retreat for an intense tactical, gun and self defense weekend, all without their husbands’ knowledge.
Upon their return, feeling rejuvenated and proud, the women try to re-adapt to their suburban lifestyles. Not so easy when you have to attend a VIP party on Catalina Island with the who’s who of Hollywood and Politics. Without warning, the island is taken hostage by a rogue terrorist group. With the men and women separated, and all outside communication cut off, Jade and her friends feel their only hope is to use their combined talents and outlandish movie knowledge to outsmart their captors.
Comedy and daring action ensue as the three women, with one weekend of self defense training, try to lead an all out attack against those holding their loved ones hostage. If you are a fan of the Stephanie Plum series or enjoy an action packed, laugh out loud read this is the book for you!

REVIEW BY LAURA PRICE
At first glance, an average middle-class household, Claire and Auggie Callahan of Brentwood, California are typical DINKs (double income, no kids). They live in one of the oldest homes in town first belonged to her grandparents, then to her parents. The house was obtained by them when her parents opted to sell. Auggie and Claire wanted to save it from becoming just another teardown so they purchased it.
Claire is an insurance claims investigator who hopes to sink her teeth into a big juicy claim with more substance; like a murder for hire. Her true passion is her favorite blond bombshell, movie star Marilyn Monroe. Auggie is a total tech geek who works for the government, is always paranoid about big brother watching, and can create any gadget with the right stuff. Both are huge fans of science fiction, from home décor to the books and movies on their shelves.
Auggie, not being just the average nerdy geek, drafts plans to create a time machine. Claire decides to use the machine to her best advantage. It could not hurt anything to save her idol from killing herself since the world would be so much better with a little more Marilyn. Will she save Marilyn? Will messing with the past have disastrous consequences? You will have to read it to find out!
I found this book to be a fun read. At first glance, I did not find that the story was piquing my interest but by the time I was a few pages in, I found it difficult to have to put it down to do real life stuff. It was a bit predictable in the way that most time travel into the past stories are but I did not foresee some of the events as the author has them unfold from main character Claire’s several journeys back in time. I highly recommend Saving Marilyn and rate it * * * * stars.

Quotes from the book:
Marilyn Monroe was an idol to Claire, but more than that she was a way of life. To Claire, Marilyn Monroe represented all that was beautiful in the world and everything that Claire always wished she could be.
“It’s not a time machine, it’s a temporal displacement system,” Auggie replied, sounding exasperated, as though he had explained this many times before.
“Please, don’t be alarmed, Miss Monroe, I’m not a nut or anything. I won’t hurt you.”

DEHUMANIZED by Michael Loring
One bite could change your life forever and that is what happened to Ryan Zachery a nineteen year old young man.
In Dehumanized we meet Ryan Zachery a young man who was bitten and infected by a werewolf. Now Ryan is taken away from everything he knows, and hasn’t seen anything outside the fence surrounding the compound in two years.
When you are bitten you are taken to a rehabilitation center “Werewolf Camp”. No one really knows what it is really like, only the people inside the fence. In reality, it is a prison. Guards think of them as animals and treat them that way. They are mistreated, abused, and not give even a second glance.
Ryan keeps to himself from everyone else. One fight can land you into the “Dungeon” which is a cement room, dark, no windows or light. You are thrown in there naked and have only a bucket to use the restroom in. Ryan has seen that room a few times too many but he keeps finding himself in there.
Ryan finds solace sitting at the fence staring out into the woods, which is his escape from the horror that surrounds him. He has a cellmate name Frederic “Fred” who is a French man. They can’t really communicate because they can’t understand each other. Soon, another person is assigned to their cell and her name is Anna Clark. Anna is a beautiful young woman, who hid what she truly was until they found her.
Getting close to people isn’t a good idea. Ryan tries not to get attached to Fred or Anna because they could be easily taken away from him. Subjects die every day either from mishaps in the lad, lack of nutrition, or getting beat to death by the others or the guards. Ryan tries to keep his distance from his cellmates because if he did get attached and something happen to either one of them, he doesn’t think he could survive it. But, soon he lets his walls come down and let them in. He looks to Fred like a brother. Will his worst fears come true?
Anna and Ryan become closer and closer. Being close to someone and letting others know is asking for trouble so they try to hide it. Ryan has never felt this way for anyone in his life and he finds comfort in Anna.
Ryan struggles with knowing there is a beast in him. He didn’t ask for this and soon he starts having hallucinations. But is he really having hallucinations and is he going crazy? Ryan is in a constant battle of not letting the beast rear its head. He could easily let the beast take over. Does he?
After a lab experiment, something goes wrong. He can remember changing, remembers what happen after the change. Changing is a horrible experience with excruciating pain. He can hear his bones and muscles crunching, spin popping and pressing against the skin on his back. Gums ripping apart, having fangs sharper than some blades. The metamorphosis is soul shattering. Going from logic sense to primal instinct could drive you to insanity.
Thanks to the procedure, Ryan can transform into the wolf when the others only can transform during the full moon. What happen to be able to allow him to do that?
Now that the experiment has allowed Ryan and the beast inside himself to be able to communicate, can they become allies work together and try to escape the prison that has caged them up and tortured them?
Will they escape or will they be captured? Can Ryan and his inner beast live with each other or will one outnumber the other?
I was really fascinated reading this book. It was a totally different take on Lycanthropy. Getting to see how Ryan feels and seeing the inner workings of his change. I was rooting for him the whole time, wanting him to jump over the gate and escape. I’ve read other books about Werewolves but, nothing quite as great as this one. I couldn’t hurry to the next page fast enough and get to the end. The whole book was well written and the characters were fascinating in their own ways. I GIVE IT 5 STARS!!!!
Quotes from the book:
“Everyone is scared to go near you, in fear you’d do the same to them, but I ain’t gonna shiver under my blankets because of you.”
“Your mutation is so unique. We could have learned so much from you, gained so much from you, Mr. Zachery.”
“I think we should bury him,” “He deserves to be properly buried, like a proper human.”
