Excerpt:

“Where the hell is Nolan?” Reese Perkins, our drummer, asked unhooking his drum set.

“Wills grabbed him,” I answered.

Reese huffed, rolling his eyes. His blue spiked hair was losing shape as he started carting equipment down the stage. I know that he’s thinking that Nolan was trying to get out of work, because he usually does.

“Hey, Don Juan,” I whistled at Evan. “Wanna help?” I pointed to the items around us.

“I’m trying to get laid,” Evan informed me.

“Well, as long as you don’t break your hand loading up the equipment then you will,” I smarted off to him.

Evan placed his hand over his heart, gave me his sad, puppy dog eyes. “Are you saying I couldn’t get laid by those two, very hot ladies?”

“I’m saying you’ll have better luck with your hand.” I give him a fake smile.

Evan winked at me, knowing that I’m being serious, and then begins to gather up the wires and cords around us.

Once everything was loaded into Nolan’s truck, he decided to make his appearance.

“Where the fuck did you go?” Reese barked at him, jumping down from the tailgate and slamming it shut.

“You three won’t believe where I was?” Nolan’s face was practically glowing like a high watt light bulb.

“Did aliens abduct you?” I asked.

“No,” he growled at me.

“Did you get laid in the bathroom?” Evan questioned.

“Shut up,” he narrowed his eyes, “I was in Wills office and the manager of Shine was there, too.”

“What?” All three of us asked at the same time.

“Yep,” he popped out the ‘p’ with force. “We have a three o’clock audition tomorrow. He’s checking out bands to open for Shine’s latest tour.”

Ethics of the Undead Promo & Giveaway

Title: Ethics of the Undead Promo and Giveaway
ethics-undead-front-cover
Ethics of the Undeadby Loren Schechter

Synopsis:

Lured with scholarships to a charter school in Idaho’s Sawtooth Wilderness, four normal teens find themselves trapped in a school for vampires. Drawn from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, the scholarship kids’ faith, friendship, and love are tested in this fast-paced, witty adventure.

Sixteen-year-old Kathy finds herself on the kill list of a Shoshone vampire who teaches Ethics for Bloodsuckers. Her pal Lionel is terrorized by his music teacher, an 18th century violinist who worked as a Mafia hit man so he could play at his victims’ funerals. With the entire student body thirsting for snacks, keeping the warmbloods alive presents a challenge for several quirky but ethical vampires. And when Kathy and Lionel are put on trial for murder in a vampire court, there are only three options: escape, die
trying, or join the undead.

This novel will delight all readers of fantasy adventure who thirst for humor in the vein of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels. Indeed, Clarion review says, “Urban fantasy meets eccentric comedy in this unique and caustically witty conflict between vampire and human ethics.

Excerpt:

A bald, barrel-chested man in a plaid shirt and jeans came onto the porch, shut the door firmly behind him and shook his head.  Edna crouched behind the low railing, waiting to see if the woman would come out with his coat.

Stay inside and live, she thought, willing her message through the cabin wall.  The white man is my prey, as I once was his.  Stay inside and live.

She heard the man click a cigarette lighter into flame.  She waited for his first satisfied exhalation, then vaulted over the rail.

His eyes went wide.  “What the-”

Edna whipped the hard edge of her hand into his throat.  His head jerked back.  He gurgled like a man drowning.  She punched his temple and caught him as he fell.  Stifling her own grunt, she heaved him over her shoulder, then stepped off the porch into the
rain.  She made her way downhill toward the river, avoiding the road.  The man’s weight felt less burdensome than her urge to feed on him immediately.
Still, she walked until she felt him move.  Then she laid him down carefully behind a clump of trees, straddled him and peeled back his collar.  Resting one hand on his throat, she sang a song of gratitude until his eyes opened.  She saw him trying to remember, to make sense of lying in wet underbrush, rain pelting his face, the dark woman sitting on him singing in a foreign language, her hand
caressing his aching throat.

“I apologize, cousin,” said Edna.  “I do this only so that I may exist as long as the Creator God wills it. I have-”

The man tried to speak.  She squeezed his throat until he gasped for air.

“Please don’t interrupt.  White people do that all the time, but not tonight.  I apologize that I have not yet purged all revenge from my heart.  I do try, but I once was a warm-blooded human and was badly treated.  You may be innocent of the crimes of your brothers, but we are all connected – and I need your blood to survive.”

The man struggled to push her off.  She rode him as if he were a frightened horse, with her knees and the grip on his throat tightening.  She bent over toward his ear and grimaced at the odors of smoke and alcohol that filled her nostrils, that she would taste in his blood.

“Do not struggle,” she whispered.  “I will spare you the pain of waking up a vampire.  I apologize for taking your blood, and your life.”

He bucked wildly as her teeth ripped into his neck, down to his carotid artery and vein.  Too hungry to suck, she punctured the artery and opened her mouth wide to the stream of blood that shot forth.  She rode him with her mouth at his neck, gulping down each pulse of salty, warm ambrosia as if the next swallow might deliver both a release from damnation and a heavenly life.

He gave out too soon.  Never enough, she thought. She licked up the splatter, picked the corpse up and walked toward the river.

Tartarus: (West of Hell Book 2) Review and SERIES Giveaway

(Giveaway details below: Please read review first)

Journeying back to the wild west…cowboys, prostitutes, and zombies (oh my). Tartarus starts off exactly where Gehenna left off. McCall and Karen boarded a train to escape the hell of Gehenna, which was full of “moaners”. Moaners are the living dead, infected people that are eating other people…zombies. Once aboard the train they learn that some of the moaners have made it on and are infecting the other passengers. Throw in a couple of outlaws trying to get to the Tartarus River and a trainload of passengers, and you have the makings of a huge ‘fustercluck’. They exit the train (not that it was really that easy but I am not going to give you all the details!) after finding out that the moaners are everywhere outside, that nowhere is safe. McCall, Karen, and surprisingly, a little boy take off on foot with no food or water. Their continued journey takes them through hell and back…with an ending that will have your mouth falling open in shock.

Tartarus was an excellent addition to the West of Hell series. It was a quick but anticipation filled read that had you dying for more when you finished. Gehenna (Book 1) broadened my horizons since I have never been a big fan of zombie books, but Tartarus opened my eyes. I am a huge fan of character interaction and getting to know the people I am reading about. In Tartarus you finally get the chance to get to know Karen and McCall. Gehenna was action packed from the start to the finish and Tartarus slowed it down a bit. I went through a myriad of emotions while reading. I laughed, cussed, and even teared up a time or two. McCall ended up being just the sort of hero that women love and Karen is one of those kick ass chicks that you root for till the very end. You see a much softer side of the outlaw McCall and even a spark of romance. Of course the ending will kick you in the teeth and leave you wondering what the hell is going on in Jason Brant’s mind! He’s a bit twisted but that twisted part is what makes his books so addicting…you never know what to expect. I give Tartarus 5 stars and I CAN’T wait to see how the West of Hell trilogy ends. I bet I couldn’t imagine the ending even if I tried.

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave the author a review where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the Book:

“Didn’t you hear what the kid said? I’m Mad Dog McCall. I do what I want, when I want.”

(McCall) “Remind me not to piss you off.  (Karen) “Yeah, well, I don’t like being called a bitch.”

“Judging by the redwood you have there, I doubt it.”

Pool of Crimson Review/GIVEAWAY

(giveaway details below…please read review first)

Pool of Crimson is an urban fantasy…and everything I like in my books! Suzanne M. Sabol really did it for me with this book. Dahlia is another one of those kick ass chicks that I enjoy to read about. A lone vampire hunter in Columbus, Ohio, Dahlia knows there are things that go bump in the night, even if she cannot spread the word to anyone else. Dahlia palms a talisman off of a vampire in a fight, not knowing that what she holds is the key to a huge plot contrived by the Ethan, the Master Vampire, to raise a demon…and take over the city. On the way to find out exactly what the talisman is and what it means, Dahlia meets Jade, a rich girl with the knowledge that Dahlia needs, but the naiveté that monsters don’t exist. Dahlia meets her match in Ethan’s second in command, Patrick. Dahlia wants nothing to do with a vampire, but Patrick wants her…and her body wants him. Throw in a werewolf hottie and his pack and you have the makings of a supernatural free-for-all. Not that Dahlia is an ordinary girl, she has a dark past, horrid childhood memories, and a well full of power that she does not know how to tap. Dahlia isn’t exactly human, but then again, she doesn’t know what she is.

Pool of Crimson rocked my world. It is as simple as that. I am a big fan of Kim Harrison and the like and I think Pool of Crimson and the rest of the series when it comes out has the potential to be right up there on my list of faves. I enjoy kick ass heriones and their sidekicks and you can’t beat a book full of the supernatural. The quirky characters and the sarcastic byplay between them just made the book. I love the character interaction and how the book almost feels real, because you feel like you have made new friends because you get to know and like them so much. Don’t forget the steamy sex and the give-me-shivers action between Dahlia and the male characters. Wow! I also liked that every vampire was not super sexy. It made it more real. I can’t wait for the next installment in this wonderful book. I am extremely curious to find out just what is going on in Dahlia’s world. All-in-all this book is not to be missed. I give this book 5 stars because I loved it…and it is my kinda book!

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for the author where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the book: (Or my favorite parts)

“Damn, you look good enough to fuck,” she said with a playful smile. “You know I’d let you but I don’t want you to get too attached,” I teased. (Byplay between Dahlia and one of her girl friends)

“I never knew how alluring a dangerous woman could be.”

“She was Hispanic, with dark penetrating eyes that met mine with a naughty smile, like she knew what I tasted like without my panties.” (I so know that is not a quote but I absolutely love stuff that I don’t expect and that line dropped my jaw and stuck with me!)

Jason Brant’s ‘The Gate’ Review/Giveaway (Giveaway Closed!)

Jason Brant outdid himself this time! The Gate is twice the length of his other books, and though I liked them all, this one is my favorite.

The Gate starts off with two college boys, Bryan and Kyle, being accepted as interns on a television show called The Specter Slayers. Bryan is the studious one and his fiancé just broke off their engagement, leaving him depressed. Kyle is the hot football player that scores all the chicks. The Specter Slayers is a show about paranormal investigators that go into supposedly haunted churches and prove that there is paranormal activity in them.

Bryan is not thrilled about this opportunity, but Kyle talks him into it with the enticement of what airtime will do to his resume. This starts their journey to the Danver church, a church that an eccentric old man bought, and then supposedly killed a whole group of his friends in.

They get to the church after a long drive, and not being able to find it, through woods that seem to get mysteriously darker and creepier the farther they drive into them. Once there, they meet the Specter Slayers, two creeps that do not believe in the paranormal, they just like to cash in, plus their nerdy tech guy. Bryan and Kyle are told that famous horror author, Katie Upshaw, will be joining them for their night in the Danver church.

But Katie has secrets that she is hesitant to share. Secrets about the church…secrets that might get them all killed…

I really cannot tell you more because if I do, it will ruin the surprise. And believe me, I never knew what was coming! It is not at all what you will expect, I will tell you that. It is about as far from normal as you could ever imagine.

This book is full of humor, at least in the first half. I laughed my way through it, never knowing what was waiting for me right around the corner. When I did get passed the humor, I spent the rest of the book with my jaw hanging open, not knowing what to expect next. I will admit to my heart jumping up in my throat a time or two as well. Delving into Satanic rituals and biblical theories (NOT in a boring way!), The Gate will have you holding your breath, and pulling the covers up to your eyes at night, fearfully hoping you are not the next to get sucked in.

Quotes from the book:

“First, I never want to see you swivel your hips like that again.  Second, you stepped in my mashed potatoes.”

“Jesus jumped up Christ, look at the size of that crack!”

“We saw something that she couldn’t handle…”

“We don’t need it coming back because it heard you.”

Once again, if I have talked you into reading this book, please leave the author a review where you bought it. I will put links to everywhere it is available underneath the cover picture. I hope you give it a chance. You will not be disappointed.

Jayce Grayson’s ‘Xianne: A Comedy of Cultures: Volume 1’ Review/Giveaway (CONTEST CLOSED!)

Xianne: A Comedy of Cultures: Volume 1

I have to say that this is one of my favorite books. Not only is it funny, and hot as hell, but it has an underlying message that I hope everyone gets. It is a satire and it deals with societies problems in a humorous way. Jayce Grayson really did it for me with this book 🙂

Welcome aboard the Xianne, a famous spaceship, and journey with the characters through an adventure that will have your blood pressure rising (in a good way!) and your brain churning, as you go from a space station in the orbit of the earth, all the way to Mars, in the 24th century. Earth has been “burdened beneath heavy-handed laws, injustice, and fear; yet liberated by abundant power-thanks to Helium-3 Fusion Reactors-and the Porn Culture’s near-eradication of the sexual taboo,” (straight from the back cover).

Along the way you will meet four people that hope to board the Xianne, which is owned by the mysterious and extremely rich Tom Duncan. The main character, Jim, is a young man who hopes to find passage and work on the Xianne. He applies for the job by filling out a strange questionnaire, where he meets the other three people that eventually join him aboard the ship. They are Sax, Suki, and Keira. These three people could not be any more different than Jim if they tried. In the questionnaire room, they look over Jim’s shoulder while he is filling in his answers and began a conversation about the ask/tell question, which asks your sexual orientation. They realize that Jim is NAY, which means that he is not sexually attracted to anyone. Yes, I know, how weird is that??

That sparks off a friendship between one nay and three highly-charged sexually active people. Once aboard the ship they meet Tom Duncan, Dr. Sharon Miles, and Moses Jones, who are the only three people aboard the ship besides a crotchety old artificially intelligent computer. This begins a trip like you have never taken before, unless of course you have been on a swinging cruise or something similar lol. Jim’s adventure takes him on a ship where sex is enjoyed and shared by everyone publically, besides him and Moses. Jim has to learn how to handle, and deal with, all the sexually charged tension, while fitting in and becoming a part of the group. He stays true to himself, even though he is given many opportunities to join the “party” so to speak, as well as a very close relationship with Dr. Miles. I could go on and on about this book, but I do not want to post any spoilers so I have to stop.

The bad thing about this is I do not know how to explain it to its full potential.

Yes, this book is a panty-drenching, hilarious ride that will have you gasping for more when you hit the last page, but it is also a look into humanity and what our culture is coming to. This is a world where almost nothing is taboo and even marriage is not sacred, but then again, people are free and liberated to do what they like. Regardless, you will have to make up your own mind about this book and I urge you to give it a chance.

Xianne is super-entertaining, perfectly edited, and a laugh-out-loud, make you think masterpiece! I give this book 5 stars and I cannot wait to read Volume 2!

(Which I have half of even though it is not due for release until early 2013! Ha-ha! The joke is probably on me though because I am going to die when I read it and it stops mid-book. That Jayce Grayson is cruel!)

Quotes from the book:

“I think that beautiful people are beautiful-even if they’re naked. Sometimes, especially if they are naked.”

It’s a Porn world-a Porn Solar System, now-No attractive woman alive expects to find all of her panties the next time she looks.”

“Sexual orientation is just a matter of our preference.”

Once again if I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for the author where you bought it. Every review helps the author. There is a link to buy the book under the picture and a giveaway below that.
