Nexus Blog Tour (CL Parker) Review/GIVEAWAY

Today we are hosting a blog tour review of Nexus by CL Parker: Review by Cassie Hoffman

Nexus is the final book in the Supernova Saga (it actually comes out TODAY) and I’m so glad I got the pleasure to read these books and I’m also quite sad that it is over. To know about Nexus, you should read the previous books first. Be aware that this book is the THIRD in a series and if you have not read the previous two books there will be some spoilers in this review.

Nexus is about the daughter of Kerrigan and Dominic Grayson, Victoria Milena Cruz-Grayson, better known as Tori. Tori are a 21 year old woman who is a carrier of a mixed bloodline. She carries the Guardian of light from the Cruz side and the Guardian Angel bloodline from her father’s side as well as blood of a demon incubus. The carrier of a mixed bloodline, she was the key. Foretold by her great-grandmother Availia Cruz, Tori’s destiny would be to carry out something monumental, something that might affect the future of mankind. She is the Guardian of Mankind. What does that mean? She has no clue, to what is in store for her. Will she stay light or will her dark peek its ugly head out?

The family along with uncle Colton and Aunt Gabe decided to go to London on summer vacation to stay with longtime friends Drew, Sinclair and Dante Dickens. Drew is also a Guardian of Light. Tori will soon find out the Dickens’s son is a Guardian of the Guardian which means he’s Tori’s Guardian. His job is to protect Tori no matter what so she can fulfill her destine, which is still unknown to what it entitles. While getting to know Dante, Tori and he feels a pull to each other, and their relationship starts to flourish. Could they be soul mates, are they destined to be together forever? While trying to figure out what is going on with the feelings she is having for Dante, she is keeping a huge secret from everyone she knows.

Tori has faced horrible nightmares all her life, but when she turned eighteen they got worse. Demons inhabit these dreams and wreak havoc and kill everyone in her dreams. Soon not only is she seeing these demons while she is sleeping, but also while she is awake. Is she going crazy, losing her mind? What is wrong with her? There is also another man in Tori’s life, which only she can see and has been seeing since she can remember. They have grown up together, but during all these years she still doesn’t know his name, he will not tell her. Who is this unnamed man and what is his motives? Soon Tori will have her questions answered about why he wants her so bad.

Tori is facing questions she has no answers to. What was right and what was wrong? Which way was she supposed to go? Which was the lesser evil and what would be best for all those involved? Will her dark side take over and will she lose her light and goodness? The final battle between light and dark wouldn’t be fought on earth, no light and dark resides inside Tori, and that is where it will make its final stand. Will she prevail and choose the right side? Will her love concur all? What is her future with Dante. What is her future period?

Nexus is an amazing read, full of secrets, horror, and romance. The relationship between Tori, Angle (as Dante calls her) and Dante is a whirlwind romance, full of ups and downs. I was rooting for them the whole time and wanting them to finally get the deed done, lol. While I started this series, I was thinking I would be reading a book for teens, well that wasn’t the case. These books are full of adult content and I loved it. The author keeps up the pace with this book just like the previous ones. I thought I would miss seeing the relationship with Kerrigan and Dominic, but I didn’t because the relationship with Dante and Angle was just as hot and sweet. You get little snippets into the other during the read as well and see their point of view. I got sucked into Nexus and I absolutely loved it. I laughed, got pissed, angry and even shed a few tears. I will warn you the ending is heart breaking, but there is also a BIG surprise you will not be expecting. I give this book 5 stars!

If you decide to pick up this book, please leave a review for the book where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the Book:

“I swear, I’m dealing with some geniuses. Cooter….it’s right next to your pooter, which sometimes doubles as a tooter, duh! Ha! Lookie, snookie! I’m a poet and didn’t know it. I can also connect the pooter and roto-rooter if you want me to.”-Aunt Gabe

“I’m the Guardian of the Guardian, Angel. I believe you’ve underestimated exactly what that means. Partly my fault, of course. I must have failed to mention that besides the circumstances of our births and our markings, there was another reason my father figured me to be your protector. I can do things no other Guardian can.”-Dante

“No, I don’t just care. I bloody love you! And I’m not about to give up on you or us. I intend to fight for you, not because I’m destined to, but because I believe in what we have.”-Dante

Pool of Crimson Review/GIVEAWAY

(giveaway details below…please read review first)

Pool of Crimson is an urban fantasy…and everything I like in my books! Suzanne M. Sabol really did it for me with this book. Dahlia is another one of those kick ass chicks that I enjoy to read about. A lone vampire hunter in Columbus, Ohio, Dahlia knows there are things that go bump in the night, even if she cannot spread the word to anyone else. Dahlia palms a talisman off of a vampire in a fight, not knowing that what she holds is the key to a huge plot contrived by the Ethan, the Master Vampire, to raise a demon…and take over the city. On the way to find out exactly what the talisman is and what it means, Dahlia meets Jade, a rich girl with the knowledge that Dahlia needs, but the naiveté that monsters don’t exist. Dahlia meets her match in Ethan’s second in command, Patrick. Dahlia wants nothing to do with a vampire, but Patrick wants her…and her body wants him. Throw in a werewolf hottie and his pack and you have the makings of a supernatural free-for-all. Not that Dahlia is an ordinary girl, she has a dark past, horrid childhood memories, and a well full of power that she does not know how to tap. Dahlia isn’t exactly human, but then again, she doesn’t know what she is.

Pool of Crimson rocked my world. It is as simple as that. I am a big fan of Kim Harrison and the like and I think Pool of Crimson and the rest of the series when it comes out has the potential to be right up there on my list of faves. I enjoy kick ass heriones and their sidekicks and you can’t beat a book full of the supernatural. The quirky characters and the sarcastic byplay between them just made the book. I love the character interaction and how the book almost feels real, because you feel like you have made new friends because you get to know and like them so much. Don’t forget the steamy sex and the give-me-shivers action between Dahlia and the male characters. Wow! I also liked that every vampire was not super sexy. It made it more real. I can’t wait for the next installment in this wonderful book. I am extremely curious to find out just what is going on in Dahlia’s world. All-in-all this book is not to be missed. I give this book 5 stars because I loved it…and it is my kinda book!

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for the author where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the book: (Or my favorite parts)

“Damn, you look good enough to fuck,” she said with a playful smile. “You know I’d let you but I don’t want you to get too attached,” I teased. (Byplay between Dahlia and one of her girl friends)

“I never knew how alluring a dangerous woman could be.”

“She was Hispanic, with dark penetrating eyes that met mine with a naughty smile, like she knew what I tasted like without my panties.” (I so know that is not a quote but I absolutely love stuff that I don’t expect and that line dropped my jaw and stuck with me!)

Bitch Hollywood Review/GIVEAWAY

(Giveaway details below…please read review first!)

Bitch Hollywood by Robert and Jan Bryndza is a delightful read. The story starts off with the main character, Filip, moving to Hollywood from Europe, having gotten a chance at a green card to live and work in America. Filip is leaving behind everyone he knows, including his boyfriend David. They both had gotten their dream jobs, a continent away from each other. Instead of trying to work it long distance, they decide to go their seperate ways. Filip’s dream job was to be a Costume Designer for films and he makes his way alone to do just that. When he arrives in Hollywood, expecting to have a friend to help him settle in and show him around, he gets totally culture shocked, as that friend just leaves him hanging. In a strange new town, in a whole different country, Filip must try to make his way and makes his dreams come true. The first “friends” Filip meets is another gay couple, Hillary and Derek. Hillary is a show-stealer that you love to hate, seemingly manic-depressive and desperate to sell his beauty line. Filip lands his first job with Veronica, a washed up actress that is trying to get her career back. With a whole cast of quirky characters, Bitch Hollywood is a dark, gut-busting comedy about the trials of life and love in the city where dreams are supposed to come true.

Bitch Hollywood had me laughing and rooting for Filip from the get go. Filip is a memorable character whos whit and sarcastic attitude, that nobody in Hollywood seemed to get, had me whooping it up and cheering him on. Hillary was a piece of work, seeming to have loads of money but such a penny-pincher that he served chips and dips for dinner! Veronica was the straight up Bitch of Hollywood, having some moments of genuine niceness, but most of the time leading Filip around by a string. Filip admittedly got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle, losing touch with himself and his family, but managed to bravely make it through people wiping dogs butts, manic-depressive friends, ass jet toilets, farting Frutarians, and dead dogs…not to mention crazy everyday living and jobs for Veronica. Filip finally finds himself in the end and what an ending it was! I highly recommend Bitch Hollywood to anyone who likes to laugh! I give it 5 stars for originality and the ability to make me laugh until I almost peed my pants! (LOL).

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for it where you bought it. Every review helps the author! Giveaway details and buy links below the cover picture.

Quotes from the Book:

“No, she was literally full of it. We had to use the high pressure pipe…”

“The ass jet water was a little cold.”

“If you are what it is to be successful in Hollywood then I’d rather fail and have a life.”

Alessa is a college freshman whose parents died in a car crash when she was 18. She pushes past her depression, or tries to, by attending college and living in a sorority house, even though she does not fit in. Alessa has one friend that she can count on in the house, Janie, who is also a freshman. Alessa starts seeing flashed of something out of the corner of her eye, and it evolves into seeing a ghost, a boy that looks to be her age, maybe a little younger. Alessa is drawn to the ghost with a magnetic pull that she does not understand. Terrified by the sightings, even though they only last a few seconds, Alessa is also strangely bereft and depressed after she sees him, longing to catch a glimpse of him again. Then, she starts having strange dreams, dreams where she is locked in a prison, or fighting in a type of war, and the boy is with her. When she starts researching the house in hopes of finding out who the boy is, she discovers that his whole family dies because of a fire. Alessa starts off on a quest to try to change the past and try to save him and his family.

Only Alessa discovers something sinister along the way…she is not truly a college student…the boy is not a ghost…and both their lives…and the lives of thousands of other people…are on the line. They have all been STITCHED! This is reality TV like you would never have thought possible! (Caught your attention yet lol?)

Let me just say OMG! I remember reading the back cover when I first received this book for review, but by the time I started reading the book, I only vaguely remembered that it had a girl and a ghost in it. I thought it would be like so many countless other books I have read about a girl falling in love with a ghost. I WAS WRONG! This story is not what you expect at all. I was floored when I hit the twists and turns that finally explained what was going on. I never expected it at all. This book was so intense that I literally read it in 1 day and could not put it down. The main characters are well thought out and you instantly connect with them. The storyline was complex, and I love books that keep me guessing to the very end, and this one did. Besides, I love dystopian books and this one was one of the best I have ever read. This book is a must read. I give it 5 stars and I cannot wait for the next one. I want it BAD! Oh, and I have to mention the cover of the book because it is awesome. It is one of those books that you know just by looking at it, that you HAVE to read it!

Once again, if I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review where you bought it, or on Goodreads! Every review helps the author!

Her heart races, her muscles coil, and every impulse in Alessa’s body screams at her to run… but yet she’s powerless to move.

Still struggling to find her footing after the sudden death of her parents, the last thing college freshman Alessa has the strength to deal with is the inexplicable visceral pull drawing her to a handsome ghostly presence. In between grappling with exams and sorority soirees – and disturbing recurring dreams of being captive in a futuristic prison hell – Alessa is determined to unravel the mystery of the apparition who leaves her breathless. But the terrifying secret she uncovers will find her groping desperately through her nightmares for answers.

Because what Alessa hasn’t figured out yet is that she’s not really a student, the object of her obsession is no ghost, and her sneaking suspicions that something sinister is lurking behind the walls of her university’s idyllic campus are only just scratching the surface…

The opening installment in a twist-laden trilogy, Stitch spans the genres of paranormal romance and dystopian sci-fi to explore the challenges of a society in transition, where morality, vision, and pragmatism collide leaving the average citizen to suffer the results.

Review/Giveaway of Amber Sweetapple’s The Houri Legends Series

(Giveaway details at bottom. Please read review first!)

Today I am going to do something a little different. I was asked to review the second book of Amber Sweetapple’s series, but I had never read the first, so I had to do that of course. But I did not want to just do the second review in case some of you had not read the first book. So, I am going to do a mini review of book one and a more detailed one of book 2. Y’all are lucky though because I have 3 copies of book 1, 2 ebooks and 1 signed paperback, to giveaway away, so you can get started on the series.

Book 1- Jack and Djinn

This story revolves around Jack, an mechanic and artist, and Miriam, a woman just realizing that she is more than she ever imagined. Miriam is in an abusive relationship with Ben, a former Marine that served two tours in Afghanistan. The clever part about this book is that it goes back and forth between the past and the present. The present revolves around a homicide detective, Carson, who is investigating the death of a man that was burned to a crisp in a very unusual way, and the past describes Jack and Miriam’s history and what led to the death.

Miriam falls for Jack while in a relationship with Ben, after he saves her one night after Ben beats her up, though she continues to see Ben. She comes off as slightly weak at first, but as her story unfolds you see that she has had a very hard life. As she gets more deeply involved with Jack, Miriam realizes that something is awakening in her, some kind of power she never knew existed, much less had. She eventually realizes that she is half Djinn, a mystical creature that has an element as a power.

This story grabbed me in from the first. I loved watching Miriam come into herself and the romance between Jack and Miriam. It is sweet, sexy, and packed with adventure as Miriam realizes the scope of her powers and comes to terms with the bully Ben. You are also introduced to many other characters that are prominent in the next book, such as Nadira, a water elemental. Ok, I do not think I am even capable of a mini review, lol, so I will make myself stop right here and just tell you that Jack and Djinn is a magical ride full of romance, and adventure. I give it 5 stars for originality and for how smoothly the story flowed.

Book 2- Djinn and Tonic

Book 2 starts off with Detective Carson Hale, from the previous book. He is a slightly alcoholic man that is sitting at a bar, contemplating the case of Miriam and Ben. The waitress, Leila, entices him into conversation. She seems to understand the strange undercurrents of the case. They get cozy in thw bar as Carson admits that he is interested in her. This is where things take a turn into weird. During their kiss, Carson gets knocked out, and wakes up to the impossible.

Carson was knocked out by Hassan, a horrible man, that feels he has a right to Leila because they are betrothed, against her will I might add. This is when you realize that Leila has powers as well, and her powers are air. Hassan destroys the bar where she works, as does she fighting him back. The unexplained destruction of the bar from fire and hurricane force winds stumps Carson. He knows that something is not right and that there is something different about Leila.

The story follows Carson and Leila as they fall in love, but their love seems like it is not meant to be. Leila is a kick butt chick, but she knows more than anyone that if she does not marry Hassan, there will be dire consequences for her people. She is an Ifriti, which is similar to a Djinn, and her culture is way different from normal human culture. Her people are capable of living for centuries, and a human marrriage is frowned upon. If she does not marry Hassan, a war could start between the Djinn and the Ifriti.

This story is full of magic as well, and full of conflict and will have you rooting for the characters to the very last page. I hated Hassan. I just wanted to go through the book and use his own magic against him. Carson goes through hell for Leila, a mere human against a whole Ifriti clan. Leila’s father, who she believes does not even love her, and Nadira, the water elemental, play pivotal roles in the culmination of this book. Jack and his grandfather also make appearences. The characters are so well thought out and you instantly connect with them. There are so many open-ended storylines that you just know that the next book in the installment is going to be just as great as these two. Plus, (and this is always a plus in my book lol), the books are HOT. Imagine almost making love inside of a tornado…hmmmmm 😉 I give this book 5 stars as well, and I cannot wait for the next book in The Houri Legends. I so hope it is Nadira’s story!

Quotes from the Book:

“My opinion does matter. I will not marry you. Never.”

“Do you like me, check yes or no.”

“It’s a scary thought, but it’s happening. You don’t belong on the ifrit side, Leila.”

Shaun Jeffrey’s Day by Day Review/Giveaway

(Giveaway Details Below: PLEASE read review first!)

Shaun Jeffrey’s Day by Day

This is a short novella with a huge impact. This book highlights the horrific reality of child and sexual abuse. Tina, the main character, is a fifteen year old child and the product of a broken home. She has a weekly visit with a father that she thinks loves her sister more. An older sister that she has a huge sibling rivalry with, and a mother that goes through men like tissues and tries to be something she is not, which is young again. Tina has no self-esteem and it shows. When her mother’s new boyfriend, Trevor, starts showing her attention with money, cds, and kind gestures, Tina eats it up. Little does Tina know that Trevor is grooming her for something sick and sadistic, a life of drugs and prostitution. Tina falls in love with Trevor hard, as any fifteen year old falls in love, and starts a sexual relationship with him. Tina’s whole personality changes and she becomes jealous and withdrawn. Before long, Tina will do anything for Trevor, ANYTHING, and that is when everything spirals out of control.

This is a scary novella to read for anybody who has kids, as I do, and it opens your eyes to the depravity that exists in the world. Full of shock value and emotional moments, Day by Day is a must read. The best thing about this book is that on Amazon it says, “A percentage of any profits from this story will be donated to a children’s charity to help those affected by sexual exploitation.” I hope that you take the time and the measly .99 cents that this book costs, to clink on the link and buy the book.

Quotes from the book:

“Had it really only been six months since he entered my life?”

“Better not tell your sister or your mum about the money. It’ll be our little secret.”

“I soon learned that monsters were real and that they were in human form.”

“It was easier to say yes and keep him happy.”

Once again, if I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review where you bought it. Every review helps the author. I will put a link to buy the book under the cover.

D.S. Hellen’s ‘Chasing Evil’s Shadow’ Review/Giveaway (CONTEST CLOSED)

(3 signed copies of Chasing Evil’s Shadow Giveaway Below: Please read review first)

Chasing Evil’s Shadow

D.S. Hellen created a world in which nightmares walk. As most of you know, I am a scaredy-cat lol, and I usually do not read horror books, but Chasing Evil’s Shadow is one I let slip through the cracks…and I am glad I did. This book kept me awake long after I finished the last page, as I lay in bed and looked in the shadows for the Cipes. The fog that I wake up to most mornings at my house became less about the beauty of the morning and more about what faceless, soul-sucking creatures could be lurking out in it.

The Traveler and the Hunter hunt the Cipes, which are soul-stealing demons that are from a different realm. Cipes are brought to our realm by the souls that scream to be taken, such as the worst people that humanity has to offer. When they are brought here by those souls, other souls along the way hang in the balance. The family members of the people whose souls get taken suffer horribly because of that. Along the journey the Traveler and the Hunter meet two men whose lives are intertwined with their own. These two men brave all sorts of battles to keep their souls intact, while grieving for the loss of many of their loved ones along the way. The characters of this book make it as you will really relate to them. Some of the scenes will have your stomach feeling uneasy and nervous. D.S. Hellen also takes some of lives more private moments, and makes them perverse, not in a sexual way, but in a super creepy way. It all works with the subject of the book though.

Pick up this book and journey with these men on an adventure that will have you holding your breath, looking over your shoulder, and hiding inside when you see creeping tendrils of fog lingering outside. I give this book four stars for creativity and for making it hard for me to sleep at night! It is well-written and the short chapters make it an easy, page turning read. It is also the first volume in a series and it leaves itself wide open for the next installment.

Quotes from the book:

“Your kitty lost his head. You get to keep yours…but your life is mine.”

“A thick fog draped over him, like it was trying to hide him or something, and I thought it was going to take me too.”

“Recently, everything had more flavor, colors were brighter, and the smells were more intriguing.”

Once again, if I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review where you bought it. Every review helps the author. I will place a link for the book below the cover.

Ashley Robertson’s UnGuarded Review/Giveaway (CONTEST CLOSED)

(A Big Welcome to My New Reviewer: Cassie Hoffman!!!)

Unguarded by Ashley Robertson: Review by Cassie Hoffman

As soon as you delve into UnGuarded you are launched into action right off the bat, which I enjoyed, and it keeps with that same pace throughout the whole book. It is filled with angels, demons, vampires and a few immortals. Good versus evil is what this book is all about. What would you do for the love of your life? Would you risk one person for another? Would you risk your life for that of a person you care about? Those are the questions Selene finds herself facing.

Selene is an angel guardian, whose main priority is to protect and watch over her charge, Caitlyn Harris. Caitlyn is Selene’s responsibility, to watch over and keep safe from demons. Selene was on her way to becoming an archangel, who are the most supreme beings to exist. Every angel strives to become one. Selene was close, but then she fell in love with Cole, a vampire. Angels are not supposed to be with vampires, but Selene loves Cole and that’s all that matters. She has given up being an archangel to be with Cole and some of her powers were stripped, but being punished still will not keep them apart.

Cole ends up being kidnapped by demons and taken to Charon, a realm that has been over taken by demons. Selene has a hard choice to make, to leave her charge, Caitlyn, behind unguarded and without protection, which could leave her open for attack by demons.

Selene chooses and her choice is to find Cole and save him. While trying to find Cole, Selene meets another vampire, Travis, who helps her get Cole back, along with a few other vampires and demons. While teaming up with Travis to get Cole back, there is a bit of tension between the two…don’t you want to find out what kind? (Lol, well I’m not going to tell you! Read the book!)

While Selene is gone and Caitlyn is unguarded, something horrible happens to her, and her future is uncertain. So again Selene finds herself trying to fix what happened to Caitlyn, and she will do absolutely anything to help her charge. Selene goes to Raphael, an archangel and her mentor for help, but there is nothing that can be done. Caitlyn’s future is marked in stone, with only two outcomes, and they are not ones that Selene feels she can live with. Follow Selene on her journey to see how it turns out. Will she triumph…or fail?

I have not read any previous books of Ashley Robertson’s before UnGuarded, and I’m popping my hand for not having before this. She is a great writer and takes her readers into a world that she describes so well and leaves nothing out. You could actually picture yourself being there. I have not read a book like this one before, one that is filled with angels, demons, vampires, fallen angels and some immortals. I’m so glad that I chose this book to read and do a review for, it has opened my reading horizon. I loathe books that have misspelled words, mistakes, and do not have a great flow and happily UnGuarded is not one of those books. She writes so well and I did not find one misspelled word in the whole book, nor did I find myself drifting off into space. Throughout this book you will meet so many different characters, and they are so very likeable. It is full of action, tension, drama and love. You have good versus evil, and evil actually joining forces with the good to help out. The situations Selene finds herself in could be applied to everyday life, if you take out the paranormal aspect.  I will definitely check out more books by Ashley Robertson.

Review /Giveaway of CJ Urban’s Diary of a Dead Girl ***Contest Closed***

Diary of a Dead Girl centers around Julie Townsend, who is 23.  In the very beginning of the book, Julie’s parents die, leaving her with custody of her ten year old brother, Sam. In her quest to give Sam a better life, she moves them to Dupont, which is a small town outside of Sacramento. Her uncle allowed her and Sam to live in his old house rent free. On the day that they move in, she was told that the only rule was not to move any of Tara’s things. Tara was Julie’s cousin who was murdered when she was sixteen, and her bedroom was left as a shrine. The door to Tara’s bedroom is locked and when Julie decides to get inside of it, she meets a man, Skye, at the hardware store. Julie opens the door to the bedroom and finds Tara’s diaries. Julie thinks that because of what the diaries say that the wrong person was convicted of Tara’s murder. Julie drags Skye on a journey to find her cousin’s killer. On their list for adventure is breaking and entering, a suspicious sheriff, a troubled young man, and a deadly secret that someone does not want out, and will do anything to keep them from finding out.

CJ Urban’s ‘Diary of a Dead Girl’ is a quick, delightful read. I am really big on books that do not go into excessive details and explaining, and this book has just the right mix of details and simplicity. This is CJ Urban’s debut novel and I have to say I was extremely impressed. The storyline was smooth, the mystery exciting and the characters were loveable. Full of mystery and a lazy Sunday feel, this is one book that you can read in one sitting, and still want more. It also leaves itself wide open for a sequel, as I was very upset by the ending. (I won’t tell you why!) I am looking forward to the next installment. I give this book 4 stars. J

Review/Giveaway of Dhampyr Heritage by E.G. Gaddess (CONTEST CLOSED)

Dhampyr Heritage is a old-school vampire book. These vampires are not the sexy and sweet ones that you find in novels these days. They are evil. This is also a YA book. It is set in the early 1900’s. It starts with Christian and Gideon as young boys of around 12. Christian has a secret to share with Gideon, a secret that he is not supposed to tell anyone. He tells Gideon because they are best friends and share everything, and tells him to meet him out by the pear tree. This is no juvenile secret though, as it has dire consequences. Gideon witnesses Christian being turned into vampire. In an effort to keep Gideon safe and twart the rumors that Gideon had something to do with Christians death, his family sends him away to his grandmothers.

Fast forward four years and the vampires have found Gideon. Gideon realizes that his family has known all along that vampires exist. His family is actually a family of vampire hunters! Deciding to journey home, Gideon meets a girl, Zola, on the boat that takes him home. Zola has many secrets of her own. (I know something you don’t know!) 🙂 Once home, Gideon realizes that Christian is indeed a vampire, and that he still looks twelve years old. Christian is trying to fight his vampire nature and it is an eternal struggle.

The book centers around a variety of secrets, lies and danger. Gideon is on a journey that no teenage boy should ever have to go through. At times funny and sweet, with a clean YA budding romance, it also has the added edge of page-turning anticpation to know what is going to happen next.. This is a new twist on vampires and is very well-written. I really enjoyed this book even though it is not my usual type of book. I prefer more modern books but this made me think I should give more books like this a chance. I give this book 4 stars!

Quotes from the Book:

“A man. A powerful man. He is going to share his power with me, and then I will share it with you.”

“Never be ashamed of those tears. To feel sorrow at another’s pain or death is not a weakness. What is weak is to let it pull you into your own despair. There is always hope. Remember that.”

“Because, yes, being with Zola made him feel like he could toss a pear core clear across the meadow and beyond.”
