Elle Casey’s New Release – Duality (Melancholia – Volume 1)
Duality (Melancholia – Volume 1)
The first book in Elle Casey’s Melancholia series is out today. The title is Duality and the book is (in my opinion) one of her best. I was happy to devour the book in just a few hours as I was given an ARC yesterday. I’m not going to give a long, detailed review because I simply don’t want to spoil this book for anyone and it is going to be really hard not to post spoilers. I’m going to try though.
Synopsis:
Malcolm’s had a problem for as long as he can remember. No matter where he goes or what he does, he leaves misery in his wake. Sadness and negativity are his constant companions, influencing others around him until they cannot bear to live.
But then Rae shows up in his life, and everything changes. Darkness cleaves to light. Anger yields to joy. The question is whether she’ll be his salvation or his destruction.
My Review:
Duality switches back and forth between the point of view of Malcolm and Rae. The two are as different as night and day but both want the same thing—a normal life. Malcolm is known as a ghost in his school, the boy that never talks to anyone or participates in anything. Something about him brings misery to people in a way that causes harm. And then Rae comes into his school as a new girl and everything changes. Rae is different too, but not like him. She has had just a hard of life as he has though. Coming into the new school, she is shocked to make a few friends in Kootch and Jasmine and to be so drawn to Malcolm. Full of Miserables, Rainbows, and Neutrals (Got you wondering now, huh?), Duality is a book that will have you turning the pages as quickly as you can, alternating between laughter and tears and back again.
Elle shocked even me, a die-hard Elle fan girl, with this book. It was so unlike her others, but kept with her same style. I loved Malcolm, Rae, Kootch, and Jasmine. Malcolm instantly hit the book crush equation and Kootch had me rolling on the floor laughing. He was so funny. Rae was unlike any of Elle’s other heroine’s and yet she was exactly what the book needed. Jasmine reminded me of someone and I definitely liked her vibe. The high school antics and even the unbelievable situations seemed believable. I believe that Elle hit a home run with this book and that this is one that nobody wants to miss. It was so original, refreshing, and funny—while at the same time tugging at your heartstrings and having you aching inside for them all. Don’t miss this one! I give Duality 5 STARS and would give it so much more if I could.
One of my favorite quotes from the book:
“You’ve got two seconds to get your head out of your colon before I twist your scrotum off and make earrings out of your beanbags.” Jasmine

Guest Post & Giveaway from Jill Elaine Hughes – Zombie, Incorporated
Jill Elaine Hughes Guest Post
I work full-time as a freelance journalist, and I also have 2 kids, so sometimes writing a novel is something I have to do on the sly. That was certainly the case with ZOMBIE, INCORPORATED. It began its life as a short story that my former literary agent asked me to write for inclusion in a Zombie Romance anthology she was pitching to editors at the time. The anthology sold to a major publishing house, but my story didn’t make the cut. So it just sort of lived a lonely life on my hard drive for a while. I later switched agents, and my new agent encouraged me to expand the short story into three chapters and a book proposal/outline. I did that, but then the “market shifted,” (her words, not mine) and the book proposal didn’t go anywhere. Apparently the main problem with my book idea was the fact that the heroine of the story was 18 and ran into zombies on her first real job out in the adult world. No publishers were buying that sort of zombie story, or so I was told—they wanted big muscular manly heroes, and machine guns, and violent dystopia. That wasn’t my game. So back on the hard drive the manuscript went.
But I was still very attached to my heroine, and my idea for a zombie book that would resonate with readers aged 18-24 who were themselves just starting to make their way in the adult world, and who were probably surprised how different being an adult really is from everything we’re told to expect. I just couldn’t let the idea go. So little by little over a period of about a year, I worked on the book and let the story unfold. I told friends I was having an affair with this book—I had to sneak around between other writing deadlines, dinner with my husband, and taking care of my kids to find time to spend with it—usually an hour or two before bed, maybe twenty minutes over lunch. (Occasionally we’d get a weekend together.) But the book and characters grew and blossomed, and brought me joy. And yet, when the book was finished and I sent it to my new agent, it sat in her queue unread for almost another year.
Why? Same old reason as before—it “didn’t fit any genre.”
Enter the reader-driven New Adult movement and easy self-publishing for the Kindle and other ebook formats. An entire generation of readers who grew up on Harry Potter and Twilight are now new adults, and they’re demanding something to read that fits their tastes. Publishers don’t offer it, but writers do. So one day, I woke up and decided to just put ZOMBIE, INCORPORATED out into the world. My agent actually encouraged me to. And so, here we are. Hello, world! I hope you enjoy this book that I wrote in secret, and built a relationship with, this little book that I could just never give up on!
Information about the Book & Author
ZOMBIE, INCORPORATED: A Katie Allred Novel.
TWILIGHT, but with zombies. No, seriously, it’s an original story. A New Adult zombie adventure fantasy. Book One of the Special Agent Zombie trilogy.
Chicago-based journalist and author Jill Elaine Hughes recently self-published her novel, ZOMBIE, INCORPORATED, a lighthearted-yet-sinister New Adult paranormal adventure fantasy that puts a new spin on the Zombie Apocalypse genre.
A longtime professional journalist and author and a Dayton, OH native, Hughes has written for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, New Art Examiner, the Washington Post, and many other publications and corporate media clients, and she has also published multiple erotica novels under the pen names “Jamaica Layne” and “Jay E. Hughes” with commercial publishers like Ellora’s Cave. One of Hughes’ other New Adult novels, TEMPLAND, is currently among the Top 25 bestselling Coming of Age novels on Amazon.com, alongside other recent breakout titles in the genre like LOSING IT by Cora Carmack and WRECK ME by J.L. Mack.
ZOMBIE, INCORPORATED Summary:
Eighteen-year-old Katie Allred is socially awkward and unpopular at school. The only child of parents who had her right out of high school, Katie is herself about to leave the nest, even though she hardly feels ready.
Katie’s new after-school job at the Zimble Box Corporation draws her into the complex social strata of high school cliques and backstabbing friends in ways she never imagined. Katie soon discovers there’s something very strange about the “in” crowd at school—and about her employer, too. Shortly after starting her new job, the Contagion breaks out, plunging her town and the entire nation into chaos as zombie shadow forces come out into the open, ravaging the streets. Katie goes into hiding and her parents disappear, along with almost everyone else she knows.
But Katie soon discovers she has special powers that help her survive. She’s a Beacon, someone with the innate ability to help zombies produce children. It’s a power her employer — and what little remains of the U.S. government — both want to exploit for their own ends. Not only that, it runs in her family—which has a secret past Katie never knew about until now.
Enter Agent Morehouse of the FBI Special Zombie Control Unit. A reformed zombie working undercover, he suppresses his urge to eat human flesh in order to serve and save humanity. But Agent Morehouse can’t help but be attracted to a Beacon like Katie, and she to him. Even as they fight zombies the world over, they must fight their intense attraction to each other, hoping to keep Katie from suffering Agent Morehouse’s terrible zombie fate.

The Devil Knows Blog Tour & Giveaway
ABOUT THE BOOK:
“The Devil Knows” is a paranormal romance-drama. It starts off with Megan learning that her best friend since birth has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Megan’s life is then consumed by the drive to find a way to save Anya. She scours the internet looking for medical answers, as well as those that seem far-fetched and impossible.
Soon, her computer leads her to the possibility of making a deal with the devil. Megan wonders if it’s even possible for her to give up her soul to save Anya. Not knowing where to begin, she soon discovers clues and signs that seem to be left for her, which leads her to an occult shop where she tries to find some answers.
But it doesn’t take long for Anya to get worse, as it seems each day her condition deteriorates. Even the doctors are baffled by the progression of the cancer, as it’s much more aggressive than anticipated. During a trip to the emergency room with Anya, Megan meets Dr. Carson who is Anya’s attending physician.
Quickly a spark between Megan and the doctor ignites, even though there appears to be something that just isn’t right about the emergency room doctor. Besides he treated Anya, so that makes Megan feels weird. Plus there is the fact that she’s been thinking about selling her soul, so a relationship is the last thing on Megan’s mind! But after a few encounters, Megan realizes that Jeremiah Carson may not be exactly who he has portrayed himself to be.
Who holds the answers to curing Anya? Could Megan really sell her soul when it comes down to it? Only the devil knows…

Excerpt One:
“Are they talking about admitting her?” Megan asked, trying to keep the horror out of her voice. From their conversations the doctors hadn’t thought hospitalization would be necessary and she could receive her chemo as an outpatient. If the emergency room doctors were considering hospitalization for anything other than dehydration and nausea, then Anya was not in good shape. If so, all the optimism and perky tones in the world wouldn’t do her any good.
“I don’t know,” Bryan repeated, clearly frustrated. “I don’t think the doctors know!”
“Okay, okay,” Megan said, trying to calm Bryan down. “I’ll be there soon. Let her know, okay?”
“Yeah,” he said weakly and mumbled that he needed to go and he’d see her soon.
The phone clicked, signaling the call was disconnected and Megan had to fight the urge to put her head back and close her eyes as she merged onto the interstate. Thankfully the rush hour traffic was dissipating.
Minutes later Megan was maneuvering through downtown, silently cursing every red light. She had been able to see the hospital since she exited the interstate and was anxious to reach her destination.
Finally, the light turned and car in front of her rolled through the intersection. Megan made her right turn into the hospital parking garage and felt her pulse begin to race.
It wasn’t fear of being too late, but the fear the unknown. Having just seen Anya earlier, Megan wasn’t sure what kind of state her best friend was going to be in.
The parking garage was across the street from the hospital and Megan collected the ticket so she could proceed further into the underbelly of the garage and begin her hunt for a space.
Parking was a nightmare—almost as bad as the ones she had been suffering at night. She reached the third level before she found a parking spot in a distant corner of the garage. She quickly trotted to the elevator, waited for what felt like hours, and wrote it down to street level.

Date Me Blog Tour Review & Giveaway
Review By: Cassie Hoffman
Date Me (The Keatyn Chronicles #3)
Now that Keatyn is in her new school, living a new life, and has thrown out writing her own scripts—how will everything all play out? Can she be the girl she wants to be?
Date Me starts right off where Kiss Me left off. Now that Keatyn is getting use to her new school, living her life on her own, and being away from her family, it’s time for her to focus on herself. And what better way to do that then to fall in love?
Dawson and Keatyn are better than ever, but what would make it even better? If she could say those three little words, and finally become officially boyfriend and girlfriend. But, can she love, can she say those words? After having her heart broken by Cush, she is scared too, but she will just have to take a chance.
Everything is going great in school. Homecoming is coming up and that is a major thing for all the girls in the school. Who can top who by the way they got asked out? I don’t know if anyone can top Dawson’s. And who is the “dream girl” Aiden is waiting for and wanting to ask out? After going into his room and seeing he spelled out “Homecoming” in glow in the dark stars on his ceiling, Keatyn can’t help but wonder who this mystery girl is and is maybe a little be jealous.
Speaking of The God of all Hotties, Aiden, Keatyn is done with him. She has Dawson right, that’s all she needs? But, when Aiden touches her, she can’t help but feel the electricity. And he is always there when Keatyn need’s someone to talk to.
Finally not having to worry about her actress mother, Keatyn does something she always wanted to do…be in a play. After writing the scripts to her life and acting them out, this should be a cake walk. Will she get the part, and finally be able to do one of the things she has always wanted to do?
With homecoming coming up and needing a dress, Keatyn invites her girlfriends to her condo in New York and a weekend of shopping, but with her stalker on the loose, maybe that isn’t such a good thing? After having a few scary encounters, she is left to wonder—will she ever be able to go back to her normal life? Or will she always have to be hiding for the sake of her family and herself?
Learning someone is also keeping their own secret from her, will she be able to confide in that person, since he has been keeping his own? And is becoming frenemies with Whitney the best thing to do, or does Whitney have a plan that will bring everything down around KiKi?
After throwing caution to the wind and making her feelings known to Dawson, and having the best month together, he breaks her heart and has her second guessing how he really feels. Can she ever forgive him and trust him again, or will she end the relationship? There is one person who is hoping that is the case, so he can finally have his chance. Will she learn his true feelings for her? You will just have to see about that one… 🙂
Finally, saying “I love you”, becoming your own self, having great friends, hiding a big secret, and having your heat stomped on—what will KiKi do?
‘Date Me’ was by far my favorite book out of the previous one’s I have read and reviewed. I love how Jillian writes and how her books picks up right where they ended in the previous ones. This book was full of super sexy scenes and a lot of laugh out loud ones. She upped the ante in this one. The Keatyn Chronicles is seriously Gossip Girl meets Sex in the City. I so enjoy reading what Keatyn is going to wear, or putting together. The girl can put an outfit together. In the first book I was Team Cush, but that is long gone. TEAM AIDEN and TEAM RILEY all the way! Hell, I don’t even know if I can pick a team… I’m TEAM EVERYBODY, lol. And let me just say now….I will never look at Life Saver gummies the same way again!! And let’s not forget the sugar glitter…oh my word! The characters in the book seriously make it what it is. Who doesn’t love Riley or Dallas…I know I do. They all bring something to the table, and make it what it is. How Jillian ended the book, I was just sitting there thinking…YOU CAN’T DO THAT TO US, I NEED MORE, AND WANT TO KNOW MORE. I guess I will just have to wait…wait impatiently for the 4th book to come out. There is no way I can give this book less than 5 stars…I wish I could give it more.
“I’m not sure about this whole love thing yet, but I like you a lot, Dawson, and I don’t want anyone else kissing you or doing anything else with you.”- Keatyn
Quotes from the Book:
“I made you cry Keatie. I don’t ever want to make you cry.”- Dawson
“Dawson is like a sexual buffet. I never know what to expect, what’s going to be next in line. But I definitely want to keep going back for more.”- Keatyn
“Sex doesn’t equal love.”- Aiden

Book description for Date Me (Keatyn Chronicles, #3):
I’m not scripting my life anymore.
I’m living it.
I’m done with the God of all Hotties.
I’m going to give my heart to the boy who I think deserves it.
The boy whose kisses are hotter than molten lava.
The boy who offered me the key to his heart.
The boy who asked me to Homecoming in a big, sexy way.
There are so many things to look forward to.
Parties at the Cave. Homecoming festivities. Drama Tryouts. Shopping trips to NY.
But things aren’t always as perfect as they seem.
I find out that my best friend has been keeping a secret from me.
Not that I can blame him.
I have secrets too.
But, for now, I’m going to pretend I’m just a normal girl.
I’m going to pretend he’s not still out there.
I’m going to pretend he’s not getting desperate.
I’m going to pretend I’ll never see him again.
But, I will.
And this time, I might not get away.
Book Description for Kiss Me (Keatyn Chronicles, #2):
I’ve always written scripts for my perfect life.
But no way could I have ever scripted this.
My life is so far from perfect, it’s not even funny.
All because of a stalker.
I’m at a boarding school, where I have to lie about who I am.
I can’t see my family.
I’m tutoring a hottie god that tortures me with his smile.
The most popular girl already hates me.
But there’s this boy.
This hot, sweet, sexy boy.
So I’m going to stop trying to script my life and just live it.
Because who knows how long I have left.

A great idea from author Phil Taylor. I will gladly reblog this to get the word out! -Cynthia
Just last weekend I noticed it. I looked at my Facebook page and I thought, Facebook is broken. This isn’t the Facebook I signed up for. When I signed up for Facebook I wanted to talk to people. I wanted to share with family and friends. I wanted to know how many kids you have and if they made honor roll. Is junior in the school play or did Susie make the soccer team. I wanted to see your vacation pictures. I wanted to know what everyone else is doing this weekend or if you saw that movie and liked it.
What I did learn when I looked at my Facebook last week was that Alan likes Tough Mudder. I also found out from Joni’s your-ecard that sometimes she takes baths because it’s harder to drink wine in the shower. I also learned from Facebook that there are a lot…
