Lethal Inheritance Blog Tour (Tahlia Newland)

Tahlia Newland has managed to WOW me once again with a story that takes magical realism, fantasy, and everyday problems that teenagers struggle with, and combines them into a story that will whisk you away from reality while at the same time teach you lessons in ways that are enjoyable.

Lethal Inheritance is about a teenager named Ariel, whose life is turned upside down in the blink of an eye, or rather, a scream from her mother. Cast in to a world that she did not even know existed, Ariel watched her mother get kidnapped by strange, scary creatures. Running when her mother screamed for her to, Ariel manages to get away. Met the next morning by a strange woman with an even stranger explanation of what happened and who exactly Ariel is, Ariel goes on a journey to find her mother, to a land that is practically right in her backyard, and yet, she never knew it even existed. Armed only with a beautiful dagger that she does not even know how to use, and a few supplies, Ariel sets off on a path that will take her through experiences that she never thought possible. With a guide named Walnut, and hottie named Nick, Ariel sets off to destroy the demons that took her mother, and get rid of the Serpentine (the evil inside of us), once and for all.

I have to say that this is an absolutely wonderful story for teens and adults alike. Beautifully written and full of fantasy and adventure, I found myself wanting more as soon as the last page was over. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It would make a fantastic gift to that teen in your life who is struggling with the normal issues that teenagers do. It takes the world and makes it understandable and enjoyable, and you realize that everyone doubts theirselves and this book gives you a great understanding of how to take those doubts and rid yourself of them. I give this book 5 stars and if I could, I would give it more!

REVIEW OF RYAN HUNTER’S ‘INDIVISIBLE’

AMAZON SYNOPSIS

Brynn Aberdie has everything but freedom … but everything has a way of changing.
When Brynn loses her family, her security, and her handouts, she is left with one last option, and it guarantees one of two things: freedom or death.

Brynn vows to find that freedom, and soon learns a lesson many in One United have already learned – by failing to protect their rights, Citizens have forfeited their lives with little hope to ever recover them.

MY REVIEW

All of you know that I am fond of dystopian/post-apocalyptic. I would even go as far as saying at this point in my life they are my favorite genre. This is a great dystopian book that I am glad I got the chance to read.

Brynn Aberdie lives in what is called the One United. This takes place in the future where all of North American has joined together into one nation, people are microchipped with their every move tracked by the government, supposedly for their own safety, and their lives are mostly controlled by the government. They live underground in energy-saving homes. Their lives are in essence, mapped out for them. They have no control. Their every word is listened to and their freedom contingent on their willingness to be sheep.

After the death of her father in what the One United calls a terrorist attack, Bree’s life is changed forever. Along with a boy named T, Bree throws off the conventional chains and takes off in search of freedom.

This book is action-packed. I literally could not put it down. Bree was a very likable character and T is just what you would expect in a boy that turns her life upside down. Bree goes through so much on her quest for freedom. There are so many twists and turns that you just do not expect. Plus, the little bit of romance makes it sweet. This is one book that you do not want to miss.

Quotes from the book:

“Equality in the classroom means equality in life.”

“We were modified, Brynn.”

“Two of us – and you think we can change the world?

“I worry about you, about anything happening to you, because I truly love you, every bit of you.

APOCALYPSE IS LIVE ON AMAZON!

APOCALYPSE: AN ANTHOLOGY BY AUTHORS AND READERS

As most of you probably know I put together an anthology called “Apocalypse: An Anthology by Authors and Readers”. It was created from a short story contest on my facebook page and it just snowballed from there. It is chock full of established authors such as Jason Brant, Jayce Grayson, R.M. Gilmore, Kate Charles, S.L. Dearing, Brittany Heister, and Jon Messenger. It also introduces a bunch of never before published authors such as Nicki Scalise (co-owner of the awesome Thousand Lives Book Blog and Page Turners Facebook page), Kimberly Hennessy (owner of Moutful of Words Blog), Heather Kirchoff, and Jocelyn Sanchez. This is a book worth reading and I’m not just saying that because I edited and published it! You also can’t miss out on the fabulous artwork by Rene Folsom of Physel Designs, who won the Cover Contest. I would love it if you would buy a copy, or even just like it on Amazon and agree with the tags! If you would rather have a paperback, those should be available from Amazon soon. Also, if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can BORROW it for free!

SYNOPSIS:

What began as an idea soon set into motion a chain of events which would lead to the next APOCALYPSE…
I want you to imagine that the world as we know it has ended. Total Apocalypse. You only have yourself and one other person you can rely on. There is no power, no water, and you are armed with only a backpack of supplies. In your backpack there are matches, four bottles of water, enough food to make it three days, and one weapon. Spin a web of survival, danger, and conflict. Tell us why the world as you knew it ended, tell us your fears, make up a world in which nothing is the same and survival is hard, and the world is against you. Tell us what you would do, where you would go, how you would get food and water, how you would protect yourself, and how you would make your life over again. You could even throw in some romance and meet some new people to help you on your journey.

Tartarus: (West of Hell Book 2) Review and SERIES Giveaway

(Giveaway details below: Please read review first)

Journeying back to the wild west…cowboys, prostitutes, and zombies (oh my). Tartarus starts off exactly where Gehenna left off. McCall and Karen boarded a train to escape the hell of Gehenna, which was full of “moaners”. Moaners are the living dead, infected people that are eating other people…zombies. Once aboard the train they learn that some of the moaners have made it on and are infecting the other passengers. Throw in a couple of outlaws trying to get to the Tartarus River and a trainload of passengers, and you have the makings of a huge ‘fustercluck’. They exit the train (not that it was really that easy but I am not going to give you all the details!) after finding out that the moaners are everywhere outside, that nowhere is safe. McCall, Karen, and surprisingly, a little boy take off on foot with no food or water. Their continued journey takes them through hell and back…with an ending that will have your mouth falling open in shock.

Tartarus was an excellent addition to the West of Hell series. It was a quick but anticipation filled read that had you dying for more when you finished. Gehenna (Book 1) broadened my horizons since I have never been a big fan of zombie books, but Tartarus opened my eyes. I am a huge fan of character interaction and getting to know the people I am reading about. In Tartarus you finally get the chance to get to know Karen and McCall. Gehenna was action packed from the start to the finish and Tartarus slowed it down a bit. I went through a myriad of emotions while reading. I laughed, cussed, and even teared up a time or two. McCall ended up being just the sort of hero that women love and Karen is one of those kick ass chicks that you root for till the very end. You see a much softer side of the outlaw McCall and even a spark of romance. Of course the ending will kick you in the teeth and leave you wondering what the hell is going on in Jason Brant’s mind! He’s a bit twisted but that twisted part is what makes his books so addicting…you never know what to expect. I give Tartarus 5 stars and I CAN’T wait to see how the West of Hell trilogy ends. I bet I couldn’t imagine the ending even if I tried.

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave the author a review where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the Book:

“Didn’t you hear what the kid said? I’m Mad Dog McCall. I do what I want, when I want.”

(McCall) “Remind me not to piss you off.  (Karen) “Yeah, well, I don’t like being called a bitch.”

“Judging by the redwood you have there, I doubt it.”

Pool of Crimson Review/GIVEAWAY

(giveaway details below…please read review first)

Pool of Crimson is an urban fantasy…and everything I like in my books! Suzanne M. Sabol really did it for me with this book. Dahlia is another one of those kick ass chicks that I enjoy to read about. A lone vampire hunter in Columbus, Ohio, Dahlia knows there are things that go bump in the night, even if she cannot spread the word to anyone else. Dahlia palms a talisman off of a vampire in a fight, not knowing that what she holds is the key to a huge plot contrived by the Ethan, the Master Vampire, to raise a demon…and take over the city. On the way to find out exactly what the talisman is and what it means, Dahlia meets Jade, a rich girl with the knowledge that Dahlia needs, but the naiveté that monsters don’t exist. Dahlia meets her match in Ethan’s second in command, Patrick. Dahlia wants nothing to do with a vampire, but Patrick wants her…and her body wants him. Throw in a werewolf hottie and his pack and you have the makings of a supernatural free-for-all. Not that Dahlia is an ordinary girl, she has a dark past, horrid childhood memories, and a well full of power that she does not know how to tap. Dahlia isn’t exactly human, but then again, she doesn’t know what she is.

Pool of Crimson rocked my world. It is as simple as that. I am a big fan of Kim Harrison and the like and I think Pool of Crimson and the rest of the series when it comes out has the potential to be right up there on my list of faves. I enjoy kick ass heriones and their sidekicks and you can’t beat a book full of the supernatural. The quirky characters and the sarcastic byplay between them just made the book. I love the character interaction and how the book almost feels real, because you feel like you have made new friends because you get to know and like them so much. Don’t forget the steamy sex and the give-me-shivers action between Dahlia and the male characters. Wow! I also liked that every vampire was not super sexy. It made it more real. I can’t wait for the next installment in this wonderful book. I am extremely curious to find out just what is going on in Dahlia’s world. All-in-all this book is not to be missed. I give this book 5 stars because I loved it…and it is my kinda book!

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for the author where you bought it. Every review helps the author.

Quotes from the book: (Or my favorite parts)

“Damn, you look good enough to fuck,” she said with a playful smile. “You know I’d let you but I don’t want you to get too attached,” I teased. (Byplay between Dahlia and one of her girl friends)

“I never knew how alluring a dangerous woman could be.”

“She was Hispanic, with dark penetrating eyes that met mine with a naughty smile, like she knew what I tasted like without my panties.” (I so know that is not a quote but I absolutely love stuff that I don’t expect and that line dropped my jaw and stuck with me!)

Bitch Hollywood Review/GIVEAWAY

(Giveaway details below…please read review first!)

Bitch Hollywood by Robert and Jan Bryndza is a delightful read. The story starts off with the main character, Filip, moving to Hollywood from Europe, having gotten a chance at a green card to live and work in America. Filip is leaving behind everyone he knows, including his boyfriend David. They both had gotten their dream jobs, a continent away from each other. Instead of trying to work it long distance, they decide to go their seperate ways. Filip’s dream job was to be a Costume Designer for films and he makes his way alone to do just that. When he arrives in Hollywood, expecting to have a friend to help him settle in and show him around, he gets totally culture shocked, as that friend just leaves him hanging. In a strange new town, in a whole different country, Filip must try to make his way and makes his dreams come true. The first “friends” Filip meets is another gay couple, Hillary and Derek. Hillary is a show-stealer that you love to hate, seemingly manic-depressive and desperate to sell his beauty line. Filip lands his first job with Veronica, a washed up actress that is trying to get her career back. With a whole cast of quirky characters, Bitch Hollywood is a dark, gut-busting comedy about the trials of life and love in the city where dreams are supposed to come true.

Bitch Hollywood had me laughing and rooting for Filip from the get go. Filip is a memorable character whos whit and sarcastic attitude, that nobody in Hollywood seemed to get, had me whooping it up and cheering him on. Hillary was a piece of work, seeming to have loads of money but such a penny-pincher that he served chips and dips for dinner! Veronica was the straight up Bitch of Hollywood, having some moments of genuine niceness, but most of the time leading Filip around by a string. Filip admittedly got caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle, losing touch with himself and his family, but managed to bravely make it through people wiping dogs butts, manic-depressive friends, ass jet toilets, farting Frutarians, and dead dogs…not to mention crazy everyday living and jobs for Veronica. Filip finally finds himself in the end and what an ending it was! I highly recommend Bitch Hollywood to anyone who likes to laugh! I give it 5 stars for originality and the ability to make me laugh until I almost peed my pants! (LOL).

If I have talked you into reading this book, please leave a review for it where you bought it. Every review helps the author! Giveaway details and buy links below the cover picture.

Quotes from the Book:

“No, she was literally full of it. We had to use the high pressure pipe…”

“The ass jet water was a little cold.”

“If you are what it is to be successful in Hollywood then I’d rather fail and have a life.”
