Excerpt:

Pregnant? Tessa Bradley’s hand slid across her abdomen, was there really a little person growing inside her? Her doctor’s voice droned on, but she couldn’t hear him. She was twelve weeks pregnant without a father for her baby, and after today’s shift—an unemployed mother-to-be.

It can’t be…I was so careful.

She hit the end button on her cell phone, and slipped it back into her pocket. During the last nine weeks, she’d worked as the secretary for a law firm in town, while their permanent one was on maternity leave—talk about irony.

How was she supposed to be a mom when she didn’t even know how to take care of herself?

“Tessa, there you are.” Mr. Jacob smiled as he stepped into the office. “I wanted to give this to you before you left. It’s just a token of my appreciation for stepping into Bev’s shoes while she was on leave. I thought this might turn into a permanent position when I hired you, but Bev obviously has other plans. She wants to come back. If things change, you’ll be my first call.” He offered her a plain white envelope.

“Thank you. I appreciate it.” She accepted it with a small, honest smile. Mr. Jacob was a wonderful boss and a good lawyer. He truly cared about his clients and did everything he could to fight for them both inside and out of the courtroom.

“Very well, it’s Friday and we have no more clients booked for today. Why don’t you take off and enjoy your weekend?”

She grasped at the generous offer, especially after the doctor’s call. She needed to get out; maybe a walk in the park would help her clear her thoughts. Maybe then, she would have a better idea what to do about her situation. In a daze, she moved around the office and gathered her things.

“Thank you again for the job Mr. Jacob.” She called to him from the door as she slipped her purse over her shoulder, and let herself out for the last time.

The air felt cool against her flushed skin, and the wind tugged her long brown hair, but she didn’t care. Heading into the park, she made her way past the children’s playground.

One day I’ll be one of those frantic mothers watching from the bench praying my child doesn’t get injured.

The countdown to ‘one day’ ticked faster than she’d ever imagined.

“Tess?” He looped his arm around hers, startling her out of her reverie and pulling her to a stop.  “Aren’t you supposed to be working?”

Cameron White stood before her in his breath-stealing, damn-isn’t-he-good-looking crisp blue Marine uniform. The medals on his chest made her proud—and served as the steel fence between the future she’d wanted and the life he’d chosen fifteen years ago.  He was a fine specimen of manhood—over six feet, muscular from his military training and hours in the gym, and shoulders wide enough to carry the world.

Over the years, she’d nursed a long-standing fascination and attraction for Cameron, one he refused to acknowledge after he joined the Marines. She tried to supplant the desire, redirect it to someone else, but even Brian didn’t measure up to the yardstick she judged all men by. They weren’t Cameron.

Young Marines spoke of him with respect, edged with fear. She knew he was strict, and expected only the best from his men, but he was also fair. Whenever someone needed a helping hand he was there, helping, guiding, but he expected his men to learn from their mistakes—to pay for their mistakes with pushups, loss of leave, whatever it took to drill the message home. He pushed his men to the breaking point, making them the finest Marines he could and he wouldn’t stand for them to give less than one hundred and ten percent.

“Why are you in your dress blues?”

“I just left John’s wedding, they pushed it up so they could be married before he ships out. It was a nice ceremony by the lake.”

She heard him but it was as if his words came through a haze, distant and she couldn’t focus. Her legs felt heavy, and her head swam.

“What’s wrong Tessa? Are you feeling okay?” He cupped a hand under her arm and guided her over to a bench.

“I’m fine…I just need to go home.” God help her it was good to see him. He was like a port for a ship lost at sea but she needed to wrap her mind around what she was going to do—and how could she tell him? She didn’t think she could bear his disappointment.

“Come on, I’ll take you home.” Arm around her waist, he pivoted neatly and guided her toward the street.

“I’m fine. My apartment isn’t that far, I can walk. I’m sure you have other things you need to do before you have to go.”  Even to her, the words sounded flat and they wouldn’t convince him, but it was all she had left.

“You’re all that matters today. I was coming over once you got off work.”

Even if he didn’t believe her, he didn’t force the subject. Maybe all the years they had known each other had enlightened him to the fact that if he pushed she’d only shut down more. What am I going to tell him? She tried to think of something, anything as he led her towards his car. They only had a few days left together before his upcoming deployment. She didn’t want to ruin the time she had left with him by bringing up her mistakes.

Just the thought of another deployment was enough to send her into panic mode. Yes, he was career military and that was part of his job, but it scared the hell out of her every, single time. In truth, he married the Marines from the day he enlisted. He wouldn’t be there for their weekly movie date, or nightly chats. Selfish? Yes, but he was such a large part of her life, she didn’t know how to give it up—even for only a short time—without her heart breaking.

If she were honest with herself, she’d admit she was in love with him, and had been since they were sixteen. Fifteen years later nothing had changed, at least not for her. For Cameron, he’d chosen the Marines, and that loyalty was absolute. He left no part of himself free for a girlfriend, let alone a wife. No matter how much she’d always wished otherwise, Tessa had accepted they would never be anything more than friends. Cameron wouldn’t allow anything more. He said something else, but she didn’t really understand it, the world around her tilted and she swayed. Blackness swamped her vision and everything faded.

The sleepy town of White Halls harbors a dangerous secret. On a picturesque street, two houses down from a lovely little park, in a quaint little home with a wraparound porch, lives a family that seems rather normal. Sure, their twenty-year-old son, Xander, still lives at home, but he’s going to college and dating the leader of the schools top sorority. It’s all very… normal.  However, when a man is miraculously saved from being hit by a bus, Xander’s life turns in to the living embodiment of the tornadoes he can suddenly create with a flick of his wrist. Whether he wants this gift or not, Xander must learn to use his new ‘super power’ quickly if he wants to survive.  For his kind is a dying race, and when this sleepy town has a sudden influx of new, blonde, fire wielders, no one is safe, especially Xander. It doesn’t help that one of these blondes happens to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Xander can’t deny the instant connection he feels to her so, when she tries to kill him, it certainly makes things complicated.

About Along the Watchtower

A Tragic Warrior Lost in Two Worlds…

The war in Iraq ended for Lieutenant Freddie Williams when an IED explosion left his mind and body shattered. Once he was a skilled gamer and expert in virtual warfare. Now he’s a broken warrior, emerging from a medically induced coma to discover he’s inhabiting two separate realities. The first is his waking world of pain, family trials, and remorse—and slow rehabilitation through the tender care of Becky, his physical therapist. The second is a dark fantasy realm of quests, demons, and magic that Freddie enters when he sleeps.

In his dreams he is Frederick, Prince of Stormwind, who must make sense of his horrific visions in order to save his embattled kingdom from the monstrous Horde. His only solace awaits him in the royal gardens, where the gentle words of the beautiful gardener, Rebecca, calm the storms in his soul. While in the conscious world, the severely wounded vet faces a strangely similar and equally perilous mission—a journey along a dark road haunted by demons of guilt and memory—and letting patient, loving Becky into his damaged and shuttered heart may be his only way back from Hell.

About There Comes a Prophet

But what are we without dreams?

A thousand years ago the Darkness came—a terrible time of violence, fear, and social collapse when technology ran rampant. But the vicars of the Temple of Light brought peace, ushering in an era of blessed simplicity. For ten centuries they have kept the madness at bay with “temple magic” and by eliminating forever the rush of progress that nearly caused the destruction of everything.

A restless dreamer, Nathaniel has always lived in the tiny village of Little Pond, longing for something more but unwilling to challenge the unbending status quo. When his friend Thomas returns from the Temple after his “teaching”—the secret coming-of-age ritual that binds young men and women eternally to the Light—Nathaniel can barely recognize the broken and brooding young man the boy has become. And when the beautiful Orah is summoned as well, Nathaniel knows he must somehow save her. But in the prisons of Temple City he discovers a terrible secret that launches the three of them on a journey to find the forbidden keep, placing their lives in dire jeopardy. For a truth awaits them there that threatens the foundation of the Temple. But if they reveal that truth, the words of the book of light might come to pass:

“If there comes among you a prophet saying ‘Let us return to the darkness,’ you shall stone him, because he has sought to thrust you away from the light.”

REVIEW OF DRIVEN

REVIEW BY CASSIE HOFFMAN

DRIVEN BY K. BROMBERG

What would make you step out of your comfort zone and finally let someone in your life, even if that someone may not be the best for you? Rylee is asking herself those questions and many more. With old wounds still healing, will this only add to them? Can she risk her heart and dive head first?

Rylee Thomas is a smart, driven, and sassy woman who has a job she loves more than anything. Working and taking care of unwanted children, that has been her life for the past two years. She had everything she could ever want, but in an instant, it was all taken away. Now Rylee is living life on the safe side, but that will soon come to a screeching halt.

Getting locked into a closet, Rylee literally falls into Colton’s arms. In that moment, her life as she knew it will be forever changed, including herself, but will it be for the better or worse?

Colton Donavan is a big time racecar driver and owner of CD Enterprises, he is a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. He isn’t into drama or having a relationship. He has arrangements, and the women who agree to them know just what they are in for. A bit of fun with a famous man, but Rylee is anything like the other women he has had in his life.

With Colton making a bet, and Rylee having to agree to it and fulfill it, her whole world will be turned upside down by the amazingly handsome man. A man, who has also asked her to say yes to his arrangement, but Rylee can’t do that. She isn’t like the other women, and at the moment, not ready to give herself to anyone else, but can Colton convince her to agree?

Rylee is convinced by her friend Haddie to have a bit of fun. Who knows—maybe she can have fun with “Ace” and then go on to find the man she can settle down with. Rylee will give it a shot, but the more they are around each other, the more she starts feeling something for Colton, but she can’t really get to know him, he won’t let her and his past has hinder the way he has relationships.

In the process of getting to know each other, both Rylee and Colton will feel stuff they didn’t think they could, but will they let those feelings ruin what they could have? Colton makes Rylee feel alive again, he has brought her out of her shell she has crawled into and shown her things she never dreamed she could or would do.

Can Rylee help Colton move pass what is blocking him, and will Colton be able to help Rylee see that she can open herself up to someone after the horrible accident she went through. In the end, can they save and help each other, or will Rylee just be like all the other women before her?

In Driven, the relationship between Rylee and Ace (Colton) is very romantic and fast paced. A great read for mature readers. I enjoyed watching them both open up to one another, even if we still don’t know what is going on with Colton in the end. Many times, I wanted to shake him and tell him to open his eyes to what he had in front of him, lol. Before I even read a part that of Rylee singing Kenny Chesney’s song “Come on over”, that was the song that kept replaying in my head. That is SO the soundtrack of this book. The author knows how to use words, and by that, she takes you into a wonderful, sexy, hot world that she created. This book will definitely have you fanning yourself during some parts, and shaking your head at others. A great combination of sexy and flirty with a side of real life problems. This is a read you can get lost in. I thought it was a bit long, but that is only my opinion, and we did get left on a cliff hanger which made me ball my hands and shake them  I can’t wait till the next book to see where everything goes and finally learn what Colton isn’t telling about himself. If you’re looking for a hot summer read, Driven is totally it! I give this book 4 STARS!!!

QUOTES FROM THE BOOK:

“Yeah, right! This isn’t a Hollywood romance movie, Haddie. The good girl doesn’t get the bad boy to change his ways and fall madly in love with her.”- Rylee

“Your face shows vulnerability, Rylee, but your body? Your curves? They scream sin. They make my mouth water to taste you again. They evoke thoughts in me I’m sure that would make you blush. The things I want to do to that body of yours, sweetheart.-Colton

“Why me, Colton? Why am I here? Why not one of the score of women before me? There are so many others that are so much prettier, sexier, skinner…why am I here and not one of them?”- Rylee

Shudder Synopsis

It’s only been three days, and already everything is different.

Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa’s life may actually have gotten worse.  In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she’d counted on for the ordeal ahead.  Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world.  And if she’d thought she’d tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she’s discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.

And then there are the visions.

The memory-altering “stitch” unlocked something in Alessa’s mind, and now she can’t shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions.  Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship.  And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers – and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world’s sorry history – will soon leave Alessa reeling…

My Review

As most of you know, my reviews for the second book in the series is always short in case other people have not read the first but I almost don’t know where to start without giving stuff away or posting spoilers! I loved Stitch, the first book. It was blow-your-mind amazing and Shudder was exactly the same way. I was on pins and needles waiting on this book, dying to know what was going to happen to Alessa and her crew. The complexity of the plot and the dynamics have you wondering what exactly Samantha has in her mind to be able to imagine this complex world. I never one time imagined that what happens in the book could actually happen but now the idea is planted firmly in my mind. It is a little freaky. While reading the book, you will do nothing but search your mind, wondering what in the world could happen next, and you would be wrong every time. I highly recommend that if you have not read Stitch, you go grab your copy, devour it, and then grab Shudder for even more mind-blowing action. This is one series that you do not want to miss! I am already dying for the next book. I give it 5 stars!

THE SPIRAL ARM REVIEW & RAFFLECOPTER GIVEAWAY

The Spiral Arm is a debut Novella from author Peter Boland. It is the beginning of a dystopian serial series, brought to you in episodes. For me, just that sold me on the idea. I love dystopian books and serial series, and I am a junkie for cliffhanger endings. It makes the suspense of waiting for the next one so much sweeter.

Synopsis:

Wren Harper lives on an overcrowded Earth on the brink of apocalypse. There are just too many people. The answer lies 600 light-years away on Kepler; a planet more than double the size of Earth. For decades humans have been fighting another race for its control. Earth’s armies are depleted. So now 15-year-old cadets are sent to fight, trained along the way in vast combat ships. But why has Wren been chosen? She’s small and geeky and not a fighter. Will she survive Kepler? Or will the training kill her first?

17969128

My Overview:

Wren is a fifteen-year-old insomniac and lives in a world where every bit of space is utilized. People live on the streets and in hallways and the government has built complexes with floors stacked on top of floors (I’m talking 300+ floors) with little cubicle apartments the size of bedrooms. This is due to a serious overpopulation problem on earth. To combat that problem, the people of earth have found another planet, but one that they are having to fight to control.

In this world, fifteen-year-old children are sent to war, training on spaceships on the years it takes to reach the new planet. Wren never expected to be chosen to go and yet, she finds herself aboard the spaceship, the smallest and the weakest one, and the one that a group of people bullies. Will Wren survive her training? Will she make any new friends? Or will she find herself  destroyed before she even finds out why she was chosen, when usually only the biggest and bravest are?

I devoured this book in about an hour and a half. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The premise was so realistic and I can just imagine it happening someday. Character development was great and Wren was an amazing main character. This is one book that you do not want to miss. The cliffhanger ending had my jaw dropping open and my fingers flying across the keyboard, begging Peter to tell me when the next episode comes out. I give this book 5 stars.

Today you have the chance to win one of three copies of The Spiral Arm via the Rafflecopter form. Good Luck!

EXCERPT:

With the wind came his scent and Julia took pause in her rapid pace. Scanning the ground, she caught the backside of him. Luckily, she was downwind and went unnoticed. With all mountains’ wind, that could change within a pulse. Deciding to hesitate in her movements to look him over could be a mistake. However, by the look of the backside of him, one she would be willing to make.

He was tall, well over her five foot nine stature. Julia could always hold her own in height with the males in town. Still it was nice to see a man who could perhaps make her feel delicate if only for just a moment, if any. At the pinnacle of his stature bore the broadest shoulders she began thinking she had ever seen. Even through his, thick fall apparel she could visibly see the contours of his tapered muscles. They seemed to fight the confines of his clothes and beg to tear free. If she did not resolve what he was from his scent, she undoubtedly could see now what he was by the build of him. She and her brother were the only two she would have ever known of and even that was not until this past year. This man shared the husky form and well-muscled sculpture of her brother. Although this Werewolf would easily outweigh her brother hands down.

She should move and gain ground for her attack but as he turned scanning the land, Julia found herself still to be held in awe of him. Chiseled features trimmed with a shadowing of sandy brown scruff to match his locks of wind-tousled hair. Minus the minuscule of gray that perhaps, only their kind would be able to catch up on. Add in his amber eyes and she could feel an inner turmoil like no other. For all the great works known to the world this man would surely be seen as one of them.

As he caught site of her she knew pausing the second longer on his sun warming eyes had been her down fall. Now it was run and run faster than she had ever in her life.

Tearing through the edge of the lumberyard and entering the forest line took all the strength she could muster. He was fast, too fast, and if not for the distance that had been between them, he would have had her in no time at all.

Their veneer of humanity ran too thin and as the pain creped forward Julia knew that this Were was bringing her wolf to the forefront. With the space amid them disappearing rapidly the urge to change came on chaotically strong. Her stride was pushed to its max and her skin could no longer coil from the oncoming touch. Just as his grip clasp on her the unfurling began and Julia could no longer hold back the pain of the unseen moon’s call.

The hellish howl of a wolf withering in pain filled the tree side. It was enough to stop her once tracker and now pursuer in his tracks. Through her huffing puffs of wolf in changing form, she heard him mutter, “It can’t be?” Then it was all she could do to remain conscious before everything including the arousing male went black.
